On December 5th, 2022, I visited this facility and was racially profiled by two of the vendors here, who both were caucasian females. While taking a look at some jewelry, I asked the vendor what the prices for the necklaces displayed were and she gave me a look before telling me the prices with a tone implying I didn’t have the funds necessary to purchase the jewelry. What else could she have based that assumption off of, if not my appearance? The second instance of racial profiling I experienced here, on the same day, was when I was viewing some products and the vendor ran to my side in fear of me stealing under the guise of seeing if I needed help. The place is small, yes, but as a black woman you know when an employee is giving you excessive amounts of customer service because they believe you are going to steal something. I was pulled in by the cozy feel of the shop, but left out feeling cold and alienated. I was put under a microscope for no other reason than my race, when all I wanted to do was check out a new store while traveling around SoHo. I advise the workers here to check their internal biases when dealing with a diverse customer base, and for any and all POC and white allies to stop giving this place...
Read moreSaving this review and reposting every time it gets deleted! This shop is cool and all but they take advantage of the artists and designers they buy from. Without them they’d be nothing. I know people who haven’t been paid what was promised to them, and upon raising their concerns and confronting the matter they were pretty much exiled and got scammed out of a large chunk of the money. The money you spend at this store is going to the owner, not the person who made it. It’s incredibly disappointing and disgusting that the owner doesn’t appreciate or really even care about these artists- especially after these pieces can sometimes take weeks to make. If you’re an artist don’t trust this place and don’t sell to them.
And to the owner- I hope you think long and hard about this and reconsider your actions. You wouldn’t have this shop if it wasn’t for these lovely talented artists who CHOSE to work with you. Please have a little more respect for people. This type of behavior is so wrong. It’s not too late to do the right thing, and you know exactly what I’m...
