Iām making a conscious effort to support small, independently owned businesses rather than large corporations. With that in mind, I stopped in to find a Motherās Day card. While the shop did carry greeting cards, unfortunately, there were none specific to the occasion I was looking for.
What ultimately left me uncomfortable, however, was seeing FOX News playing in the store. As a queer, Hispanic female veteran, Iām mindful of the environments I enter and whether they feel inclusive and welcoming. In this case, the media choice gave me pause and made the space feel less inviting.
That said, I want to acknowledge that the store was clean and the staff member on duty seemed friendly. I donāt know the owners personally, and they may be wonderful peopleābut Iād encourage consideration around whatās being broadcast, as it can unintentionally alienate potential customers.

But none of the other customers were being watched. This is sad because I always support local businesses and wanted to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been in the store a few time and everyone is always so nice and very welcoming!!! This particular time I took my almost 3yr old with me to get grandma a birthday gift. He had to tell everyone in the store hi and all the ladies just adored him!!! He was so nice and polite looking at everything that the gentleman, I believe one of the owners, gave my son a treat (Ty ghost). I didn't catch the guys name, but we both thank you very much for being so thoughtful!!! Also as I'm trying to leave getting closer and closer to the door a young lady by the name Mary Lane asked if I would like to wrap the gifts I purchased, and she did such a great job, I love it and hope my mother does as well!!! Thank you all...
