Read moreI GOT PROFILED while trying to shop here. I walked in hoping to find something to purchase as a gift since I was in town for the weekend from the Bay Area. It all seemed like a normal shopping experience at first. The associates seemed nice enough and greeted me when I walked in. It went downhill from there. I’m not sure if it was because of the way I dressed (I was in casual athletic attire wearing a bumbag + a facemask - not that it should even matter TBH) or if it was because I was walking briskly through the store going from section to section looking for an item. But once I paused in one area to check out some skin care products, the security guard approached me out of nowhere and asked if I needed any help. I told them what I was looking for and they seemed taken aback by my clear response. Almost as if they didn’t expect me to know any English (I’m Chinese) or to catch me in the act of doing something suspicious . The security guard asked me to wait while he went to ask for an actual sales associate come by to help me instead. It took me a few seconds to realize that either he or one of the associates had probably thought I was trying to SHOPLIFT. The sales associate who came over to assist me was pleasant and she was helpful enough, but this whole experience of being stopped by security for just existing left a horrible taste in my mouth. If you’re a minority, PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY SPEND...
Read moreI have been shopping at Sephora for 4 to 5 years. The one thing anyone will instantly notice is they don’t hire many people of color on their staff.I am not sure what their policy is on staff diversity but it would really help Sephora to gain the trust of their customers if they start hiring more diversity. Every time I go to this Sephora store I experience micro aggressions from their staff. Today was a highlight. The lady at the counter was extremely rude to me. I told her I have a coupon and she yelled at me later on saying I never told her about the coupon. She yelled in a manner where she assumed as a woman of color and different nationality I may not speak the language. Not only was this embarrassing for me but it completely ruined my day. Sephora if you are not going to value your diverse customers you are going to lose trust and business. Definitely need to train your staff better. If I continue to get yet another racist experience I am not shopping here ever again. Not only will I cancel my rewards membership I will also recommend all my friends who are fellow women of color to not shop at Sephora. If you get your business from brands like Fenty Beauty, atleast have the decency to give back to POC and treat us...
