Also known as 'A Mountain", Tempe Butte is near Arizona State University and it is for those of us who enjoy short walks and hikes. About 75 % of the walking path is paved and the elevation to the top is quite simple so it is wonderful for the kids as well.( Be careful when you get to the rails and hold on to the smaller kids because as easy as it is to walk, a child can slip through those rails). It takes about 15-30 minutes to get to the to the top and the view is absolutely gorgeous!
What makes this location so awesome is that its location is accessible by the train from downtown Phoenix and it only takes about 20 minutes to get there. I do not drive, however there is noticeably many places nearby, where you can park your car.
Finally, Tempe Butte is an excellent place to visit, because it is located in the middle of town and is surrounded by cafes, pubs, restaurants and plenty wonderful places for shopping. It is the coolest thing to see a mountain sitting in the middle of the city! And after all the adventures are done, one can walk about 3-4 blocks to Tempe Beach Park and find a wonderful place to relax and...
Read moreWe thought we’d get a good summer deal for a couples’ weekend here. We didn’t think about it being popular for families with young kids. With the summer deals, for families with a lot of kids (the words “a lot” are key) it’s cheaper to bring them here than go to the water park, and those parents have done that math. So, the lobby is beautiful. Beautiful views at sunset. The rooms were comfortable though mine was a bit sterile...not interesting in design. Just functional. Possibly upgraded rooms are better though they were sold out when I arrived. The pool area was nice although packed with kids. Even the jacuzzis weee full of kids-never got to use them. Nothing wrong with kids but we envisioned a relaxing weekend in a restful place. The hallways are signed as quiet zones, which was a nice concept, though we were awakened many times by shouting which unfortunately the adults yelling to each other from opposite ends of the hallways rather than kids.I’ll try this place again when school’s...
Read moreGet there in time for the sunrise! (Or sunset) I’m not a morning person at all but my husband and I made it with minutes to spare and it was so worth getting up early for. After the sunrise we lingered at the top of the mountain to watch the hummingbirds feed on the flowering trees 10/10 experience. The trail is relatively short but the incline gets really steep about halfway through. They do have rails that you can hold onto but the path sort of disintegrates the further up you go. Also, please pick up your trash! There are squirrels and other creatures that live there and it was sad to see trash littered about at the very top when there was a...
