We camped outside of Mackinaw City this past July and just happened upon Kruegers. Not only where the staff friendly and well trained in what they were selling they had the best smoked and fresh fish we have had in many years. We were unsure of a couple of options and even the newest employee was able to give us a educated explanation which helped us make a great decision. What we had fresh over the camp fire was wonderful. The fish we brought home frozen was excellent and by far better then anything we could purchase at home. The smoked fish did not last long both at the campground and what we brought home.
While we love a store just over the bridge Krueger's is our new favorite. We are traveling to Marquette next week and plan on taking a cooler with us so we can stock up before...

I would have purchased fresh lake trout or salmon but they only had walleye and whitefish that day ... and I catch...

For me the standout is their fish sausage. I know it sounds strange but trust me, try it. You'll be glad you did. It's really tasty. I love eating it sliced with cheese and crackers.
A trip to Krueger's just to get the fish sausage is worth it. Be warned it's a minimalist shopping experience. It's a fish market selling smoked meats, and a couple of other things (a couple of spices etc), that's about it.
Oh and one last thing. If they have the whole smoked chicken in stock do yourself a favor and but...
