I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mobo, a charming Japanese restaurant in Kangaroo Point. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had been transported to a delightful Japanese courtyard.
Let's dive into the culinary adventure. The Sukiyaki for two is an absolute must-try – it's a delightful taste of Japanese comfort food, perfect for sharing. The karage was a pleasant surprise – perfectly cooked and not overly done, making it a crunchy delight.
But the star of the show, for me, was the Wagyu melt. It was like a little piece of culinary heaven on a plate. The tenderness of the Wagyu was simply divine, and the flavors were an exquisite dance on my taste buds.
For dessert, I highly recommend the tempura ice cream – a delightful and unique way to finish the meal. It's like Japan's answer to the classic ice cream sundae, with a crispy twist.
The venue itself is a treat, with its Japanese courtyard theme. It's like a little slice of Japan right here in Kangaroo Point. The attention to detail in the decor adds to the overall dining experience.
And, of course, the service is exactly what you would expect from Japanese hospitality – polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. It's like being welcomed into a friend's home for dinner.
Mobo is not just a restaurant; it's a culinary journey that takes you on a delightful detour to Japan, right here in Kangaroo Point. So if you're looking for a taste of Japan with a side of local charm, don't miss out on Mobo. It's an experience that's as heartwarming as it is...
Read moreI found this spot on Google Maps, great view and delicious-looking food, and told my husband to check it out. It was a bit far from his hotel (a 30-minutes walk, all the way from the U.S. to NZ to AU), but I pushed him to go because I wanted to add it to our list of places for future visits when we come back.
He made it there, and when the server asked, “Table for how many?”, he replied, “Just one.” She immediately made a noise of displeasure and then seated him all the way in the corner, even after he asked if he could sit outside.
As an ex-restaurant owner and a current co-founder, I understand the importance of reservations and seating arrangements, but I also believe in balancing flexibility with dignity. There were empty tables, and there was a customer - so what should matter more?
The food wasn’t bad, but the way they treated him made me feel sad. Even worse, I was the one who encouraged him to go. Unfortunately, I don’t think those who call themselves part of the hospitality industry truly understand the concept of real hospitality.
Good food means nothing if the experience leaves a bad taste. True hospitality isn’t just about serving meals, it’s about making people...
Read moreCame here today with my husband for his birthday dinner 🎉 I absolutely love the vibe of this place — very atmospheric and cozy. It’s located right under the Story Bridge. Even though you can't see the bridge directly, the ambiance already makes up for it!
The interior has a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, which feels so calm and relaxing. Since I mentioned it was for a birthday celebration, they kindly arranged a more private corner for us. That was such a thoughtful touch ❤️
✨ What I recommend:
Sukiyaki: The wagyu beef was incredibly tender and fresh — literally melts in your mouth. Highly recommended!
Mobo Roll: A must-try roll with salmon and scallop. Super fresh and surprisingly filling.
Kingfish Sashimi: Clean, sweet, and refreshing!
Lastly — I have to talk about their amazing service! I ordered a dessert for the birthday, and I expected a simple candle, but they surprised us with a decorated plate and a sparkler! 🎇 It was such a sweet moment.
My husband was really happy and satisfied. Big thanks to the lovely staff who made our night extra special ❤️
By the way, if you’ve been here before — do you have any dish recommendations? Would love to try...
