These guys have completely missed the concept of a bagel. This 'bagel' is little more than an ordinary bread roll shaped in a ring. It is def not a bagel.
I ordered a classic lox - a tradition and favourite wherever I am in the world. The simularity to any other classic lox/New Yorker I've tried ends at the name... The aforementioned bread roll is just a tasteless cardboard bread roll, the schmear is similarly tasteless, the 'lox' is devoid of any taste or texture, in fact you can't even tell if it's salmon, let alone smoked salmon. The capers were dry and equally tasteless instead of their usual contrasting salty burst of zing. At least you can't get red onion wrong! It's then wrapped up a la fast food burger joint sytle and unceremoniously cleaved in two across...
In fairness the service was ok - i friendly, polite and with a smile; but it was just chaotic and with multiple staff all haggling and clamouring over who's order was who's. Multiple customers ahead of me received incorrect or missing orders.
I'll gladly applaud it's 'female ownership' status and the fact all its staff are young ladies (students?), but its definitely not a bagel store and, despite its 'Unordinary' branding is, probably one of the worst interpretations of a bagel I have ever come across. Sorry ladies, but please go find a REAL bagel store and see/taste...
Read moreBeen coming here since before it was absolutely popping, back in the Broadbeach days and have been to all the locations except the one in Seoul but nothing hits like the one in Brisbane. Absolutely adore this place and everything about it, even the drinks I don’t drink, the ideas of them alone make me a fan. The bagels are perfect, obviously there are some things that could make some things better? Some spice (or the option of) to the gmornin would be great but if they didn’t change anything, I’d be just as happy. When the brisbane store first opened, they were using different coffee bean brand and at the time it was the best and most consistent coffee I’d ever had but now that every coffee shop ever has turned to Single-O, it’s just as consistent and incredible but I think I just have a sentimental attachment to the original beans they were using. I do kinda wished they had different types of bagels, like, monthly specials or something to switch it up a little? Or sides or something, but again, if they didn’t, I’d continue to love it just as much. I don’t know what to say, I just love this place so much and just wish it was open later and they opened one on the north side of Brisbane closer to me?? Chermside? Newstead? Paddington? Either way, I’ll continue to variant collect the...
Read moreI've stumbled upon a real gem for bagels near work at O Bagel on Elizabeth St in the heart of Brisbane CBD. If you've been dreaming of legit bagels, look no further. It's fast become my go-to for a quick, easy lunch or brekky during work breaks or even before clocking in.
Walking in, your senses are hit with the enticing aroma of fresh baked bagels. It's like a big warm hug, mate. The selection is not bad! They've got something to cater to all tastes - from the old school poppy seed to more daring options like the everything bagel, and let's not forget the spinach and cheese.
I've tried a fair few of the fillings and they've all been ace. Some days I keep it simple with the classic cream cheese, or other times I opt for a hearty brekky choice like the NYC ham and egg. When I'm feeling fancy, the salmon and caper is a winner, and if I'm after a bit of a meat fest, drop the beef is the go.
What's a real bonus is how quick they are - it's perfect for a swift grab-and-go when work's got me rushed off my feet.
If you're after a chilled out vibe, a flat white to go, and some cracking bagels in Brisbane, O Bagel is a ripper. Whether you're a Brissy local or just visiting, or you're in need of a quality lunch spot or a brekky on the run during the work week, give O...
