This is my favourite of two restaurants on the Gold Coast (the second one being The Glenelg Public Eating House) I’ve eaten here dozens of times, I’m a chef , I’ve worked all over the world and have owned three restaurants, so I get it.
The food is legit. The atmosphere is legit. And it’s BYO, which makes it proper legit.
The ultimate dish is the vegetable soup with hand ripped noodles and added beef brisket.
It’s insane. The hand ripped noodles are so fat and chewy. The broth is sweet and savoury and loaded with sesame. And the added brisket is exactly how you want it, tender and just the right amount of fatty.
The duck and rice is great. The grill items are obviously delicious being cooked over coals. The chicken I had in the pictures was so delicious and juicy and seasoned. The gyoza are freaking awesome too.
It can get rowdy when it’s busy. But it’s worth it. It can be hard to understand everything that is going on with the dining room and staff but it’s worth it. Just go with the flow and enjoy the experience.
The prices are great for the quality you are getting. And it’s a proper china town experience you can’t normally get anywhere but Sydney or Melbourne.
So head in with a cold bevvie from the bottle shop two doors down. Place your order, grab a box or tissues and some house made crunchy chilli that’s scattered around and have...

Beef Brisket Noodles ($21.9): You can make your noodle soup with broth and yes is always the answer for me. I just had the thickest Chinese noodles ever and they have really good texture. The beef brisket is also succulent and I also enjoy the flavour of the broth.
Lamb Skewer ($4.8 per skewer but minimum is 2 skewers): This is probably the best lamb skewer I’ve ever tried that this kind of seasoning goes extremely well.
In addition, there are a wide range of different Chinese drinks and Honey Pomelo is $4.5, which is sweet and great.
I’ve walked past this small restaurant a few times and it’s mostly filled with people. It’s my first time trying Xi’an foods and all of the dishes taste great and authentic. The service staff are amazing that they made another bowl of noodles for me just because I’m allergic to garlics and there were garlics on my original order (Spicy Hot Oil Seared Noodles $19.8). Thank her for being considerate letting me switch to this order (Beef Brisket Noodles $21.8) and paid $2 more to match up the price. Overall, it’s a...
Read moreBeen with this place for a very long time since the last owner. I am very disappointed about my recent visit. Ordered lamb skewer was well cooked but it was really salty, the flavour was quite good then we decided to order couple more.
Told the cashier that we didn’t want too much salt as the last order was too salty (any proper business would say sorry and ensure the next one is better I think). He didn’t respond to the salty part.
Next one was cooked by 2 different people, the first guy cooked and put salt in, few minutes later a lady finished that skewer off. She added more powder fro that shake thing, we told her that man has added salt, she looked at us then keep adding it.
Then someone else ordered large quantity of skewer, then they rush our order off the grill as it’s a tiny small grill.
Our second order was salty as hell and under cooked. Both the lady and the man told us it’s like eating a steak, rare lamb is normal.....
Safe to say they’ve lost a regular customer for sure. Lack of very basic hospitality...
