Belvedere Hobart — Restaurant in Hobart

This little gem of a restaurant/bar in the lobby of Vibe Hotel, is so exceptional that I am always amazed when I come in and find it is not busier than it is? Granted, I tend to come later in the day for either a cappuccino or a delicious Chai Latte, followed by their orange cake which is to die for! However, I have had both lunch and dinner and their menu selection is superb! My greatest love and weakness, is sitting with a friend on their two high back chairs, next to the fireplace, which is so comfy and warm and watching the world go by! The restaurant staff, whom I have had a greater interaction with, are all courteous and accommodating to any of my dietary needs or requests. But I'm sure that overall, as a hotel, all the other staff would be equally as professional! I'm almost tempted not to post this review, as selfishly, I don't want to let the cat out of the bag! Although we chose The Vibe Hotel to stay at due to its proximity to some great restaurants, we were exhausted at the end of a tour of Tasmania and decided to eat at the Hotel’s restaurant (Belvedere). We were very pleased that we did as the menu was lovely, staff very friendly, and food was delectable. As we weren’t overly hungry, we shared a couple of smaller dishes. The meals were very fresh and very delicious. We shared a dozen oysters natural, Salt & Pepper Calamari (Lime caramel, mesclun, chipotle mayonnaise, house made dukkah), Cape Grim Beef Croquettes (Polenta, cheese, parsley served with Smokey harissa), and Basque Cheesecake (Melba sauce, dulce de leche, fresh berries). Over a 6 day stay this restaurant proved more than once the only thing its good at is ignoring single customers. If your a big group no worries you get served immediately my personal experience and from watching other single travellers returning cold meals has been terrible. Breakfast I waited more than 15 minutes before even getting a menu, dinner was even worse out of sheer frustration I went and got my own menu. When the staff eventually get around to you ordered drinks don't appear,they just forget your even sitting there,cold meals that have been rushed and the staff have ignoring you down to a fine art.This restaurant need a complete staff overhaul and better training.Would not stay here again simply because of the ignorant and incapable...
