From the moment I stepped inside Hunter & Barrel Perth, I knew I was in for an unforgettable dining experience. This restaurant effortlessly combines rustic charm with modern sophistication, and every detail—from the décor to the food—makes it clear that it’s all about delivering a premium experience for its guests.
Ambiance & Atmosphere: Hunter & Barrel has a warm, inviting, and slightly industrial feel—think wooden tables, exposed brick, and soft lighting that creates a comfortable yet upscale vibe. The atmosphere is perfect for almost any occasion, whether you're out for a casual meal with friends or celebrating a special occasion. The open kitchen adds a sense of excitement, allowing diners to catch glimpses of the skilled chefs at work as they prepare each dish to perfection. There’s also a great balance of energy in the space—it’s lively but not too loud, which makes it easy to carry on a conversation while enjoying your meal.
As soon as we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the staff and seated promptly. The service throughout the evening was exceptional—attentive without being intrusive. Our waiter, Sarah, was knowledgeable and passionate about the menu. She took the time to explain the specials and provided fantastic recommendations, ensuring we had the perfect wine pairing to complement our meal. The entire team worked seamlessly, creating an environment where we felt taken care of from start to finish.
Food & Drink: The menu at Hunter & Barrel is a carnivore’s dream, with a focus on high-quality meats, but it also offers plenty of options for vegetarians and seafood lovers. Whether you're after a juicy steak, tender lamb, or a refreshing salad, there's something for everyone here, and everything is thoughtfully crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
We began with the Hunter's Share Plate, which was a fantastic way to start the meal. It came with an assortment of charcuterie, perfectly cured meats, house-made pickles, and crispy bread—just the right mix of flavors and textures to stimulate our taste buds. The platter was substantial, offering a good balance of salty, savory, and tangy elements, and I loved how each component was unique in its own right. It was a true crowd-pleaser, and definitely worth ordering if you want to sample a...

We were seated at the bar until the table was ready. Staff were polite and friendly. Water was provided when seated. Reasonable waiting time for food. Mains were served before the starters. It's 2 hour dining time, and no time to order/ enjoy the desserts--- 7.4/10
F&B: wide selection of wine. Simple food menu. Nice and simple presentation. Normal portion. Reasonable prices in CBD. Non Alcoholic Cocktail at bar area: ~ Passionfruit Colada, $16: too sweet for my liking. Lack of Passionfruit flavor. ~ Amalfi Spritz, $17: relatively light flavor. Full of ice cubes. It's like a summer drink.
Hunter's Feast, $130: includes Chicken Thigh Skewer, 200gm Rump, 1/2 rack of Pork (or beef) Ribs, Traditional Boerewors coil, and our choice of Mushroom Sauce. Chicken thigh skewer was cooked beautifully. Rump and Pork Ribs were pretty good. Boerewors coil was very hard if you didn't eat it immediately. Mushroom sauce was ok.--- 8/10 Hunter's Tomahawk, $198: 1 kg black diamond Tomahawk was cooked very well, served with our choice of mushroom sauce and our choice of crispy chips (or mixed leaf salad) on the same board. It also included charred corn, Truffle Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts, and Truffle aioli. Potato chips were very crispy. Brussel Sprouts were tasty.--- 8.8/10 Calamari, $29 (L)/18(S): served with chili jam. Very tender. Crispy outside. --- 8.5/10 Creamy Mash, $12: very soft. Tasty --- 7.7/10 -King Prawns, $39: 3 Prawns with grilled pita bread (cut into 4 pieces), submerged into the sauce finally. Served a lemon wedge and a l little droplet of coriander chutneybon the top the prawn head (not enough for me). One Prawn was a little bit overcooked. Pita bread became less essential. --- 7.5/10 Mac & Cheese, $19: tasty but not so chessy. --- 7.8/10 Garlic Bread, $14: soft and puffy. Not much grated...
Read moreI've come here twice now and had very similar experiences both times. I'll start with the good. The food is about what you would expect for the price, I haven't tried their most expensive steak ($195) but also haven't ordered the cheapest. Sitting somewhere in the mid range I felt on both occasions it warranted coming back on the odd occasion. What I particularly liked the most was the vibe in the indoor dinging area, it's nice enough without being pretentious which personally I value. Both mains and sides are adequately sized.
Now the things that could do with improvements. Firstly the menu images online are outdated. The Tommohawk Steak for example is actually $46 more expensive on the current menu than on the menu image available online. Then, it's easier to get up and walk over to someone and ask them to order than expect a waiting staff to approach your table. The first time I came I was about to walk out after about five minutes of trying to get someone's attention, and the second time wasn't much better. The frustrating part is that there's ample staff present walking around, and on multiple occasions I would make eye contact with menu now folded and give subtle hints. Short of clicking my fingers at them I didn't feel there was that much more I could do. The majority of times I'd give them he benifet of the doubt expecting them to be busy and that they would return, but to no avail, and at times only to see them stop and chat to other staff afterwards. I appreciate it's not one of those places where you're constantly hassled by staff asking "how is everything" just when you've put a scoop of food in your mouth, but a little training on when to approach a table to take an order and when glasses of drinks become empty might be worthwhile. When my glass of water ran out I had to walk to the little table and take one of the waiting staffs jugs to my table, because I was never getting a top up.
Overall I'd come back, the service is friendly when you get it, but you need to get it first. Expect to pay more than the...
