Chemistry & Botanic’s is one of the most amazing places for a drink in Brussels. It usually takes something special for me and my partner to go somewhere twice on the same holiday (just because we want to experience as many places as possible)- and C&B just had that. From the moment we were greeted at the door to the moment we left (considerably more inebriated than when we arrived), all of the hardworking staff made us feel welcome. We were seated at the bar (something I strongly urge others to do if there are seats) because watching these bartenders work is part of the experience, from Mike and Larry putting ice down Dani’s shirt, to Dani picking up a glass only to realise the bottom of it had somehow fully detached itself and was left behind on the floor… me and my partner laughed the whole evening on both nights from the antics and jokes the staff all got up to.
The drinks themselves range from very accessible (they actually have a predicted accessibility score for each drink!) to more acquired tastes. The menu is varied and they are more than happy to whip up more classic cocktails.
It can get a little steamed-up and warm on a busy night, but that’s to be expected from a cosier business and it’s easy enough to pop your head out for a breather!
A huge shoutout in particular to Larry and Dani who remembered us on our second visit despite probably seeing hundreds of people in the space between our visits (though Larry did admit, looking at my partner’s large beard, that he could never forget a magnificent beard like his, so perhaps that was a given!).
All in all, genuinely one of the most amazing places in Brussels. We hope we’ll get the chance to come...
Read moreA nice place for a drink. I am a bit confused about their posted hours. I saw that they were open as of 5:30 and booked for then, but when we showed up, the place was full of people who clearly didn’t just get there. They start you off with free water which probably had some citrus added - nice. The appetiser mixed platter was tasty with cheese, olives, prosciutto, hummus, and carrot tapenade. I just wish we could have had bread instead of the pretty tasteless corn chips. Cocktails were good. I would maybe suggest offering a few more non-alcoholic options. I will probably go for that next time. This time I had the mango cocktail which was very strong. Taking a star off for very underwhelming bathrooms. There was no clean paper to wipe your hands. All the reusable cloth towels were gone and there was a wet, dirty rag on the sink. A patron locked herself in one of the toilets and kept loudly Skyping with her kid from there. Seriously? Service was friendly and I...
Read moreAs my husband is an experienced mixologist, it's hard to find a cocktail bar with a non-ordinary menu with unusual ingredients. We've been going to C&B since it opened in 2018 and we've never been disappointed.
Last night was the first time in a while that we had been and they didn't need a "Halloween special" (as usually the 31st October is one of the most fun nights to go to a cocktail bar to have a quirky concoction). Their drinks were incredible without needing an event.
I could have sipped many "Pistacialands" all evening. It was the perfect drink to have out. Like food, you try to have something you wouldn't have at home and that drink ticked all the those boxes as well as being delicious.
Edit to add: a lot of people mention the quantity/ price ratio. For such good quality ingredients, some being small batch homemade ingredients, the price is more than reasonable. Sometimes there's a reason why some drinks...
