We went to this restaurant last night as a family of four adults and two kids because my uncle had visited before with his friends and said the food was great. Unfortunately, our experience was completely the opposite.
The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived. We asked for the buffet, but they said it wasn’t available because there weren’t enough customers. So, we ordered from the menu biryani, kizhi porotta, pal porotta, chatti choru, momos and some snacks.
Everything we ordered was very poor in taste and quality. The biryani was bland and flavourless, not even a single dish was average. We ordered everything together, but the food was brought out one by one, making the wait long and frustrating.
The service was extremely disappointing. A couple who came after us received their chatti choru before we did. When we asked about ours, the server first said it would be ready soon, then later claimed she didn’t take the order, even though she had mentioned earlier that it would take more time. It was very unprofessional and confusing.
When we finally got the food, some items were missing. The kizhi porotta was supposed to come with an omelette, but it didn’t. When we asked, the server didn’t even know and had to go check, then brought it later with no apology or explanation.
No one came to check on our table at any point. Only when my uncle went to pay did they ask how everything was, and he told them honestly that it was very disappointing.
Overall, it was a terrible experience and poor service, bland food, and careless staff. The restaurant was empty for a reason. We will never go back and would not recommend this...
Read moreThis is in reference to the previous review, and I would like to clarify a few points.
We visited the restaurant as my mother was particularly looking forward to having a Kerala meal. During the ordering process, we casually inquired whether the meal was unlimited. It was a single, polite question—not a repeated or insistent request, as suggested in the response.
The food was served below room temperature, which led us to request that it be reheated. Unfortunately, instead of resolving the issue, the cook became defensive and argumentative, focusing more on justifying the situation than addressing our concern. Ultimately, he refused to reheat the food.
To our surprise, the cook then offered a 50% discount on our bill in exchange for not posting a review on Google. We declined the offer and chose to pay the full amount, as we believe future customers should be aware and that such matters should not be covered up.
Of the three adults in our group, I personally refrained from eating, as I had concerns about the freshness of the food—especially after the service staff mentioned that most of the items are refrigerated, which is common in franchise operations. I was also accompanied by my five-week-old infant, and the empty state of the restaurant further reinforced our doubts.
Our intention in sharing this is simply to caution others before ordering a refrigerated Kerala meal. Unfortunately, the misleading response from the establishment has made it necessary for us to clarify our...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting Ocean Palate Indian and Kerala Cuisine during my trip to Niagara Falls. One big plus is that the restaurant is open until 2 AM, which is perfect for late-night visitors like me. I went to see the fireworks at 10 PM, and afterwards, I stopped by this place around 11 PM feeling super hungry.
The ambience inside the restaurant was really nice, and I enjoyed the overall vibe. They offer a buffet for just $20, which is a great deal. There were many Kerala-style dishes and curries to try — I especially loved the special mutton, crab, and their tea.
However, a couple of things could be improved. The food wasn’t hot enough during my visit, so I’d suggest using gel food warmers to keep the dishes warm for longer. Also, parking was a bit of an issue — I believe there are only two spots reserved for Ocean Palate in the shared lot. Lastly, when I was there, there was a pile of garbage right in front of the shop, which created a bad smell and affected the outdoor...
