Absolutely worst customer service and Racial Restaurant. Very Racial. I had my event on the 13-15th September. I went to this restaurant on Friday the 13th September with 15 of my group on Day 1. After we placed the order for food, the waiter comes to me and informed me to lower our groups voice as we were loud according to her. She also mentioned that the people (White People) behind our table were "Reacting to our Noise". I immediately apologized to her and asked my group to reduce the noise. My group were not singing or yelling, they were just talking the normal way to each other. After about 2 -3 minutes, we heard a huge laughter and conversation behind our table and they were enjoying and freaking out. We had no problem with that. But we had problem with their complaining about us. So I called the waiter and informed her that the table behind us are speaking at a higher tone than us and I want to complain against their noise. ( I would not have done this under normal circumstances). The waiter did not have the courage to warn the people behind us because they were not "Browns'. The waiter was shocked to hear this from me as she never expected a "Brown" complaining. She did not know how to react. She was totally dumb and taken aback. I then asked her more specifically, "Did the people behind us complain to you about us? She said No, Not these people. But there was this incident 2 days ago when when a white group complained. So she thought to avoid a similar incident, it would be better warn us. Hence, she tried to scare us that the people behind us are "Reacting". This is the problem with the DESI community. We try to shut our own people but get carried away by people of other colors because some of the DESI's lack self confidence, and feel inferior to the main stream community. My wife was part of our group and was very furious at this nasty behavior of this waiter. She wanted to walk out of the restaurant then and there. Since we were the host for these 15 + people we acted more professionally. My wife warned me not to Tip the waiter. Normally, we Tip 20-25% of the bill. She was even ready to take to the next step to remove the Gratuity Charges if it was already added automatically. Fortunately, for us, it was not added . We then decided NEVER TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. Next 2 days we went to another Indian Restaurant one block from this restaurant. Oh by the way, they served spoiled Chicken Tikka or Butter Chicken to my group which they were good enough to credit the final bill. My advice to the Indian and Pakistani Community, if you feel something is wrong, go ahead and raise the issue. Do not be scared. Do not think what other people will think about you. You are no inferior than other person. Do not worry if the other person is rich, white, powerful, politician, etc., DO WHAT IS RIGHT. I do not know if this waiter is the owner or someone else is. But to all those people who do business, your first priority is...
Read moreReview for Passage of India, Niagara
During my recent trips to Niagara, I had the pleasure of dining at Passage of India not once, but twice, and I must say, it is truly a hidden gem in the area. Despite some surprisingly low ratings online, my experience at this restaurant has been nothing short of delightful.
Ambiance and Service The ambiance at Passage of India is inviting and warm, with a cozy interior that blends traditional Indian décor with a modern touch. The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels at home. Both times I visited, the service was prompt and courteous, adding to the overall positive experience.
Food Quality and Taste The real star of Passage of India is, of course, the food. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes that are flavorful and well-prepared. I was particularly impressed with the Chicken Tikka Masala, which had the perfect balance of spices and a creamy, rich sauce. The Paneer Butter Masala was another highlight, with soft, fresh paneer cubes in a luscious tomato-based gravy.
The naan bread, fresh from the tandoor, was soft and buttery, providing the perfect accompaniment to the flavorful curries. The Biryani, a classic Indian rice dish, was aromatic and cooked to perfection, with each grain of rice infused with the delicate blend of spices.
Comparison with Dhaba by the Falls Having also dined at Dhaba by the Falls, I can confidently say that Passage of India surpasses it in both taste and pricing. While Dhaba by the Lake offers a good dining experience, Passage of India provides a more authentic and satisfying flavor profile at a more reasonable cost. The portion sizes at Passage of India are generous, and the dishes are priced very competitively, making it a great value for the quality of food offered.
Overall Experience Both of my visits to Passage of India were thoroughly enjoyable, and I would not hesitate to return again. The combination of excellent food, friendly service, and pleasant atmosphere makes it a standout choice for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in the Niagara area. Don’t let the low ratings fool you; Passage of India is a culinary delight waiting to...
Read moreThought we would visit this restaurant based on some of the other (suspicious) reviews. We were seated at a table and then had a staff member come over and vacuum around our legs. We ordered from the menu for the kids and went with the buffet for my wife and I. The kids order was slow to be delivered so we gave them a portion of our meal in the interim since they were hungry. The owner or someone in authority called the waitress over and whispered to her to tell us that we were not allowed to share as per buffet "rules". Fair enough as this is standard but considering that we had ordered separately for the kids from their menu, I did not see this as "cheating" the restaurant. Once I finished my first round at the buffet I went back for something different only to find that they do not provide new plates and that you are to reuse your old plate. I guess they are selective about which buffet "rules" they follow. My sympathy to our waitress as she seemed to be the only one working while the "whisperer" and other staff sat around barking orders at her. Poor woman had to take the orders, deliver the food, answer the phone which kept ringing and act as cashier too. The food wasn't anything special either. I tried the "butter chicken" which is probably the easiest Indian dish to make today and have to say you could do much much better than the cheapest store bought sauce. The chicken tikka pieces looked leathery as though they had been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. They did however get the plain white rice right (rice cooker perhaps?). My wife ordered a tea from the "whisperer" as she walked by. I guess that was not part of her job description as I have never seen any thing delivered at a restaurant with such...
