I feel that this restaurant is a disgrace to Indian food. I have grown up eating true authentic Indian dishes and while in Niagara stopped in because I was craving chicken tiki masala. We were initially drawn in by the beautiful front and how clean the restaurant appeared to be. When we were seated we were handed a plastic pitcher of room temperature water that was sitting on the bar with a line up of 9 other half full pitchers. However, the seats at the front window were given ice cold water in glass pitchers fresh from the kitchen. It appeared that the restaraunt was providing a "front" for individuals walking passed which worked on us!
We ordered the shrimp appetizer which was VERY salty and each ordered byrani after seeing the faces of the other two couples in the restaraunt who were eating Vindaloo and chicken Korma. We figured this would be a safe choice, but instead we got a rice dish that had 3 pieces of chicken for me and 4 pieces of lamb for my husband, it tasted as though it had been reheated in a microwave from last week. Also, because we were seated across from the kitchen door I was able to see that our food had been ready at the same time as our appetizers and sitting on the shelf. The butter naan bread was as hard as saltine crackers and had a burnt flavor in some spots.
We were never asked if we wanted more water after drinking the half pitcher during our dinner, the waitress spoke so softly and got frustrated when we asked her to repeat herself, our plates were cleared and after saying we did not want dessert the two ladies stood at the front desk waiting and staring at the window. I finally went up and asked how we were to pay and they printed the recipt.
We felt forgotten and the food...
Read moreWas vacationing in Niagara Falls recently and my wife and I wanted some Indian food, so after much deliberation, we settled on this place. There are many other Indian establishments in the area, but let me say that THIS is the one to go to.
We had their fried cauliflower appetizer and it came out to us within mere minutes. Also ordered their butter paneer with some garlic naan and that was also quickly brought to our table and tasted phenomenal. However I have some minor issues that caused my review to go down a star (see below).
We were given water with our meal, and the server poured it from a pitcher. I assumed it was cold, but it was actually rather lukewarm. We had to ask for ice water instead, and even then, it barely had ice in it. A heads up to all you water drinkers...
The butter paneer did not come with any rice whatsoever. Nowhere on the menu did it indicate this, and the server never asked us if we wanted rice. I had to add it to the order afterwards for an additional cost. It seems everything is ordered 'a la carte' so keep that in mind when placing an order.
We waited almost 15 minutes for a check to come, and it never did. It would seem you have to just walk up to the counter when you're done eating. They don't write you up a receipt or anything. Very confusing. Wasn't even a busy night so I'm not sure what happened there.
Don't let these minor setbacks that I mentioned steer you away, however. I'm not that disappointed; they're just minor issues in the grand scheme of things. The food is amazing and comes out super fast. I would likely...
Read moreThe food was okay, and the customer service was decent overall. However, one staff member's behavior really ruined our experience. We had just come back from having a fun night, hungry after enjoying Niagara Falls, and were invited to the restaurant by my Indian friend for dinner. When my other friend and I arrived, two of our friends were already at the table eating with plenty of preordered food.
As soon as we sat down, a waitress came over, and we ordered some beer, asking for a little more time to decide on additional food. She went and my Indian friend went somewhere for a while. Shortly after, another staff member came by. When my friend who arrived later asked for two extra glasses for water, the staff member rudely questioned, "You don't want to order anything, just water?" His tone made it seem like we only came to drink water.
I am very familiar with India, so I could easily see the way he was trying to talk. It’s common restaurant practice to serve water to customers first, and we had just asked for additional glasses. Plus, we had only been there for a few minutes and hadn’t even turned the menu yet.
This behavior was very apparent to us, and when my friend arrived with beer bottles he was silent. Then, he asked my Indian friend in Hindi if we were with her, she said yes and he acted normal. This made us feel either he was being racist or assumed we were too broke to afford anything more than water. My friend felt bad by his attitude.
Despite this, we ordered some food, stayed for a while,...
