I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant in my life. This is not a family friendly establishment DO NOT come here if you have small children. Our group of 4 adults and 2 babies came here for dinner and arrived at 6:15. We were given a high chair for one baby and served quickly but as soon as one of our babies made a noise the entire tone of the restaurant changed. The owner who was sitting at the front drinking with friends was making comments about the babies making noise (two happy squawks from one baby) and then the music was abruptly CRANKED so high we couldn’t hear each other talking. We flagged our waitress and asked for it to be turned down as the speaker was directly behind our table and it was at a harmful volume for infant ears. She was visibly uncomfortable and we could continue to hear comments being made from the front of the restaurant about us so at this point we asked for our food to-go so we could leave. The owner then came over and pointed to the controls on the speaker and said that’s where we could turn it down.

It was made obvious that the music increase was deliberately done because of us. As someone who worked in restaurants for a decade I’ve never felt more unwelcome and uncomfortable in a restaurant. We are all new parents and by no means expect everywhere to be “baby friendly” but when there is a kid menu advertised and high chairs available what else would you assume. Our babies weren’t loud at all but is was abrubptly clear we were NOT welcome. If you’re not a family friendly establishment that’s FINE, but don’t cater as if you are. Our server apologized on behalf of the owner and said it’s an issue they have dealt with all season long. 0/10 recommend.

We paid full price for our food with no apology other than the server back tracking for the deplorable behaviour of her boss. We are our food later in our hotel and found it to be okay (although my partner got sick later that night). No food is worth being treated the way this man treats his customers. If you read through reviews here and on trip advisor there are several similar experiences of the owner berating his customers while drunk and acting completely inappropriate. I honestly have no idea how this place is still in business. No wonder this business does not have any social media accounts as I’m sure they would be getting blasted regularly by...

Recently my friends and I (who came to visit me from Europe) went to the amazing Vancouver Island. Every night we had dinner in a new bar-restaurant because we wanted to explore all the places. And one evening on August 26th at 4:00 pm we went to have dinner at Frankie's Resto-Bar Restaurant. There were quite a lot of visitors in the bar, and when we approached the staff to ask if they had any free seats, the waitress (Marie) rudely answered that there were no free seats in the restaurant! and offered us a seat near the bar counter, but she also mentioned that in the future it would not be possible to move to the dining area because there were only two waiters on shift and they did not have time. When we sat down we were given a menu and we decided on the drinks and food pretty quickly. I would like to note that while we were waiting for our order, time flew by unnoticed. The food was 50/50 :( my pork belly bbq was too overcooked and dry, and my friend's chicken bbq sauce was very spicy. (the only thing we liked was the Ribeye burger with fries, beer and cornbread) they forgot to provide us cutlery for our food and waited as they walked past for our cutlery. despite all the shortcomings of the kitchen, we had to eat the food because we were very hungry and also the prices at the bar are quite high to just take and leave food there! BUT MOST OF ALL THAT SHOCKED ME was when it was time to pay. each of us paid separately. two people including me left a 15 percent tip, but when it was my friend's turn to pay, she did not want to leave a tip because she considered it inappropriate for such service, and at that moment the waiter (Marie) with a raised voice and a rude tone began to humiliate and demand a tip from my friend. (Marie) began to say that apparently my friend does not like Canada because in Canada everyone is obliged to leave tips and also she started talking about how it is mandatory to leave tips in their bar because they have to give some percentage to the kitchen workers. I was completely shocked by what I heard, I have lived in Canada for many years and have never seen such rude waiters. If I had the opportunity to take back my tips that I left, I would have done it without even thinking. Our evening was completely ruined and even now, a few days later, when I decided to write this review, I can't stop thinking about this...

Frankie’s Resto-Bar is located in one of Ucluelet’s culinary hubs; a foodie hub just steps away from the west coast ocean village’s inner harbor. In this cool foodie hood made up of a cluster of four great eateries — catering to all eating times, from breakfast, to brunch, to lunch & then on to dinner — Frankie’s attracts an enthusiastic following among locals, as well as pleasing visitors to Ukee, the name locals use affectionately to refer to their stunning ocean village. Frankie’s stands tall shoulder-to-shoulder with his four culinary hub peers. It opens @ 12 pm & goes until 9pm plus, all the time offering friendly & attentive service. I have always received superb service. Frankie, the owner, is mostly in the kitchen creating the dishes the eatery is well known for of which its brisket is for many its stand out offering, but comes out as well to meet & great & serve dishes to customers, be they his regulars, or visitors. I have been to Frankie’s a number of times — with my family in the early days, with a friend, or solo & have eaten a number of the dishes on the menu. And sipped a number of the craft brews on tap. The brisket, which is served with mashed potato, is very tasty. It comes with Frankies cornbread which is wonderful. It is no wonder many beat a path to Frankie’s to get the brisket. Its beef burger is another popular offering. It has a good in-house pressed meat patty & good flavors & comes with the customary fries. Its Ling Cod & fries is another popular option, & most recently I had the bourbon chicken wings which were delicious. The culinary hood in the Main St/Imperial Lane area is vibrant with an appealing diversity of good places to eat at from 8am to post 9 pm & includes one which is plant-based, owned by Sharon Wu, called Yayu, which creates good brekkies & bowls, as well as yummy smoothies & drinks. For the most part all four eateries have very different characters & together especially they offer wide-ranging choice. As the saying goes, build it & they will come .This hub built up of diversity of offering dishes across the spectrum. And make no mistake people...

We had a negative experience at this restaurant. We came in asking for a party of 6 for dinner. We waited maybe 25 minutes for a table. Usually restaurants will notify you in advance if they plan to seat you outside or would ask you first if that’s okay to be seated outside. (Considering it was very chilly in Ucluelet that day) We waited 25 minutes only to find out she was going to seat us outside. If we knew, we probably wouldn’t eat there. They had heaters but apparently weren’t working. Only one worked and it was used on the other side of the outdoor seating. It was very cold and the food took over 1 hour to arrive. We waited almost 1.5 hours. So we were sitting in the cold just waiting for our food for that long. After waiting 30 minutes after ordering the food, the waitress came to notify us that the food is not gonna take just 15 minutes and that she just wanted to let us know so we are on the same page. We said okay but it would have been nice if she gave us a heads up food will take roughly an hour before seating us!! Never did she mention at all that it would take over an hour. Not only that but the food was very mediocre. I got the seafood linguine for 41$ or 43$? The pasta didn’t taste horrible but it’s something I can make at home or a very very most simple pasta restaurant can make for half the price or less. There were only shrimp and fish inside too. For this price, I can get a very fancy pasta in Downtown vancouver or even fine dine. There weren’t even any better seafood inside. Overall, it was just not worth it. The food and experience both were meh. If food is gonna take 1 hour, we should definitely be notified before even getting seated. Common courtesy.

I'd give Hank's BBQ 2.5 stars because while I would not advise people against going there, I would caution them about the price and quality of meat if they wanted to go; additionally it is unlikely that I would go again. While the food was tasty the prices seemed fairly high (by ~$5-10) for the food. I ordered the brisket and for $27 I expected more. As seen in the picture - I received a single slice of brisket that was ~50% meat 50% fat with an equal amount of sauce covering it, decent mashed potatoes, ok veggies (beets were a nice touch, pickled onions not so much), and a piece of cornbread that was nice and moist on the inside but charred on the outside (seemed to work well though, it was good). My companion ordered the clams and mussels which came with a basket of fries (w/ tasty caramelized onion aioli) for $23 and described them as "Well cooked, with a tasty tomato sauce, but the sauce was a bit on the salty side. And the dish was a little bit overpriced". The service and atmosphere were fairly nice; we went on a Saturday night and it was crowded, but service was reasonably quick. All in all the food was tasty, with the exception of the brisket which was very fatty and drowned in sauce; however it is unlikely that I would choose to go again, if only because I feel that I would have wanted more meat for what I paid. Additional warning: The menu posed in 2015 by the restaurant is not the one that we received for dinner which in comparison is pared down significantly and did not allow for the separate ordering of sides that I have grown to expect at a BBQ place. I think we would have been much happier with the experience with the 2015 menu.
