I recently visited Baan Thai with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The combination of a rude waitress and a forgotten reservation left a bitter taste in my mouth. Upon arrival, it became apparent that our reservation had been completely overlooked. While mistakes happen, the lack of acknowledgment and apology from the staff only added insult to injury. It was frustrating to witness their disorganized approach and apparent disregard for customer service. To make matters worse, the waitress assigned to our table displayed an astonishing level of rudeness. Her condescending tone and dismissive attitude were completely uncalled for. Instead of making us feel welcome, she seemed more interested in rushing through the motions of her job without any regard for basic courtesy. Throughout the evening, her behavior remained consistently off-putting. She failed to provide timely service, frequently ignoring our requests and leaving us waiting for extended periods. It was evident that she lacked the necessary interpersonal skills to handle customer interactions with even the slightest hint of professionalism. The quality of the food did not compensate for the abysmal service. The dishes we ordered were lackluster, with underwhelming flavors and presentation. This further compounded our disappointment, as we had hoped that the cuisine would at least redeem the overall experience. It is regrettable to have to leave a negative review, but it is important for potential patrons to be aware of the subpar experience we encountered. I would advise others to exercise caution before considering Baan Thai as their dining...

After we moved to HK in April 2024, we were looking around for a good THAI restaurant.... after several disappointments in other restaurants, we finally found Baan Thai in Central - and it has been our favorite ever since. In at least 10 visits, the food quality was always excellent and the servings had a good size. The Green Chicken Curry and the Basil Chicken is definitely our favorite, but also the other curries and the Pad Thai are great. For starters, the Prawn cake, Satay Sticks or the Chicken in Pandan are our favorites. The cocktail menu lists the standards but also a few house specials and have a good punch. We also like the atmosphere - downstairs a bit more like a bar with high chairs and tables, upstairs more a restaurant character. And : The washrooms are clean! The staff is a-ma-zing... They are suuuuper friendly and helpful, give good recommendations, and when things go wrong, they always find a way out (happened once where for some reason we had 3 mains for 2 people). Jubelle and colleagues do a fantastic job to make you feel welcome and serve your food quite quickly. Prices are definitely good value for money. When we think of Thai food in HK, for us there is only one...

Vegetarians avoid

The worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. I arrived for lunch on a rainy Wednesday and the restaurant was nearly empty. The server was still extremely rude and nonchalant when I explained my dietary restrictions (vegetarian). I mentioned it a couple of times and she said in a very loud voice -- "I know, you want vegetarian, well give you that".

I wasn't confident about it. Lo and behold, the green curry was served with prawns. I called her and asked to change and she didn't even apologize. She seemed more annoyed about my dietary restrictions than apologetic.

I have very little confidence in this place catering to dietary restrictions. I was worried that they had added fish sauce and other things as well in my food, who knows? They don't take these seriously, so I will avoid them in the future.

The food itself was very mediocre in taste as well. Green curry was alright, and the Tom yum soup looked like it was made from some ready to eat pack. Not...

Disgusted and horrified. I used to love this place and ordered from them frequently on Deliveroo. When I went to dine in last night, after placing our order (for shared dishes) the waitress placed 2 empty bowls, 2 spoons and 2 plates on our table. I went to lay them out and saw that the bowls and spoons had soup remnants in them and were used. We told the waitress and she took them back and snapped at another waitress, and we asked her to take the plates back too so we could get new ones. We saw her take a tissue and wipe the same plates and put them back on our table. We again asked for new ones and she snapped at us they were clean. At that point we gave up and cancelled our order and left. I understand mistakes can be made, but the used bowls already made us feel quite sickened however it was the waitstaffs attitude about serving us dirty bowls that completely put us off. Shame as I used to love the food there, but obviously I put hygiene standards above everything else.

Baan Thai on Wyndham Street is a great spot for a quick and satisfying executive Thai lunch. The set lunch includes a starter, main, and drink, offering good value. I particularly enjoyed the pomelo salad, which was generously portioned and refreshing. The red beef curry was flavourful and perfectly sized, accompanied by a side of rice. The Thai iced tea, served with sugar syrup on the side, was a nice touch to round off the meal. Updated Review (27 August 2024) I recently learned that Baan Thai updates its menu weekly, which adds a refreshing variety to each visit. This time, I tried the spring rolls and the prawn curry. While the spring rolls were enjoyable, I found myself preferring last week's pomelo salad. The prawn curry was excellent, featuring generous portions of peeled prawns, and the iced Thai tea, as always, was a highlight. The total cost for a two-course lunch with a drink was HKD 179 per person—a fair price for the quality and flavour offered.

We frequently visit restaurant in this chain at Causeway Bay. This time, we decided to try this location. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We ordered fried rice, coconut soup, and Pad Thai. I specifically requested my portion to be non-spicy. The soup arrived quickly, but it was very spicy. When I informed the waiter about the issue, nothing was done. Half an hour passed, and the soup was still sitting on the table. The fried rice was brought out, but it was extremely unappetizing—overcooked and completely different from what pineapple fried rice should be in any Thai restaurant. We never got the Pad Thai and eventually left. Was the restaurant busy? Aside from us, there was only one other table. Terrible service and the food was simply awful.
