A mixed bag experience for authentic Chinese (Sichuan) food in the centre of Prague

Basu presents itself as a kind of upscaled Chinese restaurant (specialised in regional Sichuan cuisine). Located in the backyard of a shopping mall in the very center of old town, the offered cuisine was ok without particular highlights but came with a relatively hefty price (for what you get and where you are).

The place: the restaurant obviously tries to present itself as an upscale restaurant succeeding only partially. While some decorations and part of the overall design convey an attempt to a sophistication that is not really achieved, the final feeling is not particularly pleasant. The lights are dimmed and cold, bringing kind of a sad feeling. Making customer order their dinner through a tablet is not a good idea. The tablet was a bit greasy and not cleaned.

The service: the service is the highlight of the dinner. Staff is always pleasant and nice. Even open to a joke and always keeping a smile that you can guess behind the masks. Flexible and patient they have met all our requests and wishes. A definite plus for the service

The food: while not bad, the food seemed nothing special. Considering the attempt to present themselves as an upscale establishment (and having prices partially reflecting such attempt), I was expecting way more from the dishes coming to our table. Fried dumplings were overcooked and broken (several had holes or breaks) which made them quite dry (while a dumpling should be succulent and juicy inside). Taste was ok. Beef on a hot plate had the same defect. It was ok, but nothing I will remember or that will make me suggest the place to anyone. Maybe after being spoiled at lunch in a very different restaurant my expectations were raised, but overall instead the dinner felt kind of a let down.

The price: considering the environment and the food, the final price (around 35 euro) is way too high. Drinks are heavily overpriced.

Overall the restaurant was not bad, but didn’t reach anywhere the threshold for me to wish to be back. It only got 3 stars thanks to a great service, otherwise I would...

Straight 10 stars! Extremely authentic and delicious Sichuan China foods! We walked passed this restaurant on Monday evening at Slovansky Dum and the waiter Zheng Hao greeted us. I asked to take a look at the menu and Zheng Hao warmly and kindly recommended a few signature dishes when I asked for. He was extremely courteous, sincere and hardworking in sharing and recommending the dishes their restaurants offered example twice cooked pork, boiled beef and mapo tofu. Because of his sincerity and good attitude, we returned the next afternoon for lunch. We ordered Sichuan pepper dry prawns, pork ears in chili oil and boiled beef. The pork ears were extremely delicious and flavoursome. The Sichuan pepper dry prawns were amazing and had the best potatoes and lotus roots in it. The boiled beef is not spicy and oily enough but it's good overall. The white rice looked and tasted perfect and they have Wang Lao Ji herbal tea to cool us down. Zheng Hao's customer service is the best in the whole of Europe. He is a very kind and courteous young man, who is a great asset to this restaurant. Without his good service right at the beginning, we wouldn't have the chance to try the super epic gorgeous delicious China Sichuan foods here. Czechs who are smart should try the Chinese foods in this China restaurant and not sushi here, since it is not China...

Komunikovali jsme s paní číšnicí a požádali ji, aby nám naúčtovala, abychom mohli použít navigaci a po jídle zavolat bolt taxi. Číšnice souhlasila, poděkovali jsme jí a dali jí nabíječku. Mohu nyní připojit vlastní nabíječku k mobilnímu telefonu a zapojit ji přímo do prodlužovacího kabelu.

If I can give it 6 stars I would! So I just happened to be waiting for my wife and decided to walk into the mall where the restaurant is located and then I saw the advertisement for it. What caught my eye was how stunning the photos of their signature dishes were, which were a variety of Sichuan dishes. So that means their dishes are spicy hot (for most palates). So we ordered the hot pot, then the ingredients we wanted. What makes this place great is most hot pot experiences are a big pot shared by everyone you're dining with. This place gives you your own pot. And you have to dine at only the tables outfitted for hot pot. The table has a electric stove top to cook your pot. You control the heating completely. I'll spare the details of how to enjoy a good hot pot. What you need to know is how great this experience was. They give you fresh ingredients. The shrimp we ordered was already split down the middle and cleaned. The flavor of the hot pot was just an experience you must try for yourself. I've had hot pot more times than I can remember and this was the best overall experience other than the family experience I usually have when eating this dish. For a restaurant to deliver a dining experience like this is just superb. I can't recommend this place enough! You might need ice cream afterwards but it will be worth it!
