【Wonderful food, but deeply disappointing and discriminatory service from one waitress】
The food at Café Louvre was delicious — I especially enjoyed the cheesecake, which was honestly the best I’ve had in all of Europe. However, I unfortunately had an extremely unpleasant experience with one waitress, which ruined my last day in Prague.
I am a woman in my twenties, visiting from Japan. When placing my order, I had trouble pronouncing some words in English, so I opened a translation app to try and say it in Czech. At that moment, the waitress (named Drahuska, a large, older white woman with honey-blonde hair) said to me in a harsh and commanding tone: “I’m not Chinese! Speak!”
This was not only shocking and completely unprofessional, but it also felt racially discriminatory. Her attitude throughout the meal was equally unpleasant. I ordered a full course, but after I finished my soup and main dish, my plates were left on the table for more than 30 minutes. Eventually, I had to ask a different waiter to clear them.
When I asked Drahuska for dessert recommendations, she replied, “I don’t know,” and when I asked about popular dishes, she said something like, “Well, they’re all popular… maybe the cheesecake…” — in a clearly sarcastic and dismissive tone.
Her rude and cold behavior made it very difficult to enjoy my meal. I even lost my appetite and began to observe how she treated other guests. I noticed that she treated a Chinese couple at the next table with the same coldness and lack of respect. Interestingly, she was slightly more polite to a group of white European women — which led me to suspect that her behavior might be selectively discriminatory.
I’ve been in Prague for a week and have visited several top-rated restaurants. All of them were kind, welcoming, and warm — both fine dining and casual places, including fast food. Nowhere else have I met service as poor as what I experienced from Drahuska. That’s what makes this all the more disappointing — because I had been truly looking forward to visiting Café Louvre, knowing its historical prestige and cultural reputation.
Sadly, this one staff member diminishes the dignity and charm of the restaurant. The other waitstaff — including a young woman and a man in his 30s — were all polite, patient, and professional. They waited for me to find my words or even offered help when I hesitated in English. They were excellent, and I sincerely thank them.
As a small business owner myself in Japan, I understand how important it is to maintain brand image and quality. I hope that the management of Café Louvre will take this review seriously. I believe that hiring someone like Drahuska — who exhibits both poor service and discriminatory behavior — puts the reputation of your restaurant at risk, especially in an age where one viral video could spark worldwide backlash.
Please protect the beautiful legacy of Café Louvre. I love Prague and I want to come back. I may even return to Café Louvre. But if Drahuska is still there, I’ll hesitate.
P.S. I did not leave a tip this time, because I could not in good conscience reward Drahuska’s service. I apologize to the restaurant,...
Read moreCafé Louvre in Prague is one of those rare places where history, charm, and hearty food come together to create a memorable experience. Stepping into the café feels like stepping back in time — with its elegant interior, high ceilings, and Art Nouveau decor, it’s easy to imagine the great minds like Kafka and Einstein who once dined here.
I visited for lunch and ordered the beef goulash, a classic Czech dish that Café Louvre executes wonderfully. The meat was tender and slow-cooked to perfection, soaking up a rich, paprika-infused sauce that had just the right amount of warmth and depth. It came with soft, fluffy bread dumplings that were perfect for mopping up the gravy. Comforting, filling, and flavourful — it was the kind of dish that felt both traditional and thoughtfully prepared.
For dessert, I went with the cheesecake, and it did not disappoint. Unlike the dense, overly sweet versions you might find elsewhere, this one was light, creamy, and well-balanced, with a delicate crust and a subtle vanilla flavour. It was the perfect sweet finish to the meal without feeling too heavy.
The service at Café Louvre was friendly and professional, with staff who were attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere itself is worth the visit — lively yet relaxed, and full of natural light streaming through the tall windows. Whether you’re there for a full meal, a coffee, or just to soak in the historic ambiance, it’s an easy place to linger and enjoy.
Despite its popularity with tourists, Café Louvre maintains a genuine charm and doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. Prices are fair for the quality and setting, and the extensive menu offers something for everyone, from traditional Czech cuisine to lighter café fare.
Overall, Café Louvre is more than just a place to eat — it’s a cultural experience. With its rich history, refined atmosphere, and satisfying food, it’s a must-visit when in Prague. The beef goulash and cheesecake made for a perfect combination, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return for...
Read moreAn absolutely wonderful and memorable dining experience!! We went to cafe louvre for dinner, having taken reservations a bit in advance considering how packed and busy they always are!
It took a while to get a table, but none the less it was worth it. The service was kind and attentive, all our needs were met and they even gave us suggestions for dietary preferences we had.
I ordered the small hot chocolate Louvre having heard wonderful things about it online! And it did not disappoint, rich ,creamy and decadent, served with a side of cream.
We also got the fresh ginger tea which was also good, served with honey per our request.
For the entreé , we ordered the CHICKEN BREAST that came with creamy pepper sauce and spätzle; so flavourful and delicious, the quantity of meat was quite small though.
For the vegetarian offering, there are quite a few good options!! We ordered the FRENCH SAVORY QUICHE, that came with spinach, goat cheese. So fluffy and filling, the eggs were cooked to perfection.
The scrambled eggs with sundries tomatoes were so soft and subtle in flavour, complimented with Brie and arugula, definitely a must.
We were still a little hungry, or maybe desired to try a little more of the amazing dishes served here, so we also ordered the beet root gnocchi that came with walnuts. It wasn’t the best dish we had but quite hearty and satiating.
To end off on a sweet note we ordered the 2 most popular items on the menu , the classic sacher with whipped cream , which was a bit disappointing, the cake was little dry .
The other item we got was the classic warm apple streudel, served with warm vanilla sauce and whipped cream, this was a hit, perfect balance of sweet and creamy.
Overall wonderful experience!! Would definitely come here again on...
