During my recent trip to Prague, I had the pleasure of dining at a Czech restaurant nestled in the heart of the city, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, weary from a long journey with two restless children in tow, we were greeted by an attentive waiter who immediately brought a high chair and crayons for the kids, making us feel incredibly welcome.
The culinary delights we indulged in were nothing short of extraordinary. We started with the "Variace topinek s masovou směsí se smaženou cibulkou a s pomazánkou z pivního sýru," a trio of crispy toasts topped with a flavorful meat mixture, fried onions, and a beer cheese spread. Each bite was a harmonious blend of rich, savory flavors that perfectly captured the essence of traditional Czech cuisine.
Next, I savored the "Hovězí guláš podávaný s karlovarským knedlíkem a čerstvou červenou cibulkou"—a hearty beef goulash served with Karlovy Vary dumplings and fresh red onion. The goulash was robust and comforting, with tender pieces of beef swimming in a deeply flavored sauce. The dumplings were the ideal accompaniment, soft and pillowy, soaking up the delicious sauce with every bite.
Lastly, I tried the "Smažená gouda obalovaná ve stripsové krustě pečené brambory, naše tatarská omáčka," a dish featuring crispy strips of fried Gouda served with roasted potatoes and the restaurant's own tartar sauce. The Gouda was perfectly melted inside a crunchy crust, and the potatoes were golden and seasoned just right. The tartar sauce added a delightful tang that brought everything together.
To top it all off, the beer was simply exceptional, embodying the rich brewing traditions that the Czech Republic is so famous for.
Overall, this restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was sublime, the beer was delicious, and the service was truly first-class. It's a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the best of Czech hospitality and...
Read moreIn short if you’d rather not read the staff our great, accommodating and friendly, the food is incredible and the drink too I would highly recommend making this a planned meal while in Prague!!! My god, I’m travelling round Europe for the summer this year, my friends and I just arrived in Prague today saw some of the sights as the weather was perfect! We decided to go for dinner and wanted to try some Czech cuisine, Kozlovna U Paukerta was 2 doors from our hostel, so we checked the menu and reviews and my god we were not disappointed. I had some garlic bread with beer cheese sauce and bolognaise with a large local beer for my starter. The garlic bread was crisped to perfection and the bolognaise and cheese sauce where scrumptious! I then had the traditional Czech steak. The steak literally melted in my mouth the dumplings where perfect and the sauce was the best steak sauce I’ve ever had. The food was so filling as well for such a good price. What took the restaurant over the top was the service from the staff, in particular a waiter called Martin, he was welcoming, kind, accommodating and a complete character. I’m a very clumsy person and dropped some dumpling back on my plate which splashed the sauce on a new white shirt I bought travelling with me, other restaurants I’ve been to while travelling did not do this, Martin helped me out straight away and got me a new cloth and a bowl of soapy water to stop my shirt from being ruined, I think me and my friends maybe back for dinner tomorrow! I highly recommend trying this restaurant if you are ever in Prague! Thanks...
Read moreWe went here on a recommendation of our hotel as it was supposedly one of the only places open. The venue was nice enough, and we got seated fairly promptly considering it was busy.
The first thing that threw me off was the bartender being very dismissive/rude to a lady who asked for a drink, he just said they were too busy so couldn’t help, he could have said this politely. Even still I was hopeful.
Beer was good. We ordered the soup, pork knuckle and the pork bites. We were told food would be an hour due to the day and how busy it was, we weren’t in a rush so this was fine.
Soup was decent 6/10 could have used more flavour, but it was pleasant. The mains turned up. Starting with the pork bites, they were fairly bland but at least moist, everything else pretty bad, Sauerkraut far too sweet, dumplings or whatever they were dry and bland, the bread was a pointless addition, this was a 3/10. Pork knuckle made the bites look good, it was dry yet fatty and tough, once again lacked flavour, the condiments were minimal and didnt make up for the monstrosity on the plate, 1/10.
I’m not a fussy person but this was bad, really bad, maybe we just ordered the wrong stuff or they were very busy due to time of the year.
Unlikely we will be going back or...
