I recently had the pleasure of attending a performance of the opera "Carmen" at the Prague National Theater, and I cannot overstate how impressed I was with the entire experience.
From the moment I stepped into the grand foyer, I was immediately struck by the theater's stunning architectural details. The rich history of the building, coupled with the beautiful blend of Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Classical designs, created an ambiance that was both enchanting and awe-inspiring.
The performance of "Carmen" itself was nothing short of breathtaking. The cast's talent was exceptional, their voices resonating with such passion and power that I felt completely engrossed in the narrative from start to finish. The orchestra did an outstanding job, providing a rich, harmonious accompaniment that perfectly set the tone for each scene.
What truly sets the Prague National Theater apart, however, is its staff. Everyone I interacted with was professional, courteous, and went out of their way to ensure I had a memorable evening. Their dedication to providing a top-tier experience for their patrons truly added to the overall enjoyment of my visit.
In summary, if you find yourself in Prague and have an appreciation for the performing arts, I cannot recommend the Prague National Theater highly enough. It was not just an evening at the opera, but a truly memorable experience that I will cherish. The combination of the sublime performance, the grandeur of the theater, and the exceptional service make it a must-visit destination.
I can't wait to return and enjoy more of what this incredible venue...
Read moreAs a Canadian visiting Prague, attending a performance at the National Theatre was a highlight of my trip. The building itself is stunning, with its grand facade and opulent interiors, making it an experience even before the show begins. The rich history of the theatre is palpable as soon as you step inside, with intricate architectural details that transport you to another era.
I attended an opera performance, and it was nothing short of spectacular. One thing I appreciated was the subtitles provided above the stage, which made it easy to follow along with the story, even though I don’t speak Czech. The emotions conveyed through the music and acting were powerful, but having the subtitles definitely enhanced my understanding of the performance. The orchestra added to the atmosphere, making the entire experience feel truly world-class.
One minor downside was that the seats were a bit tight and uncomfortable after sitting for a long time, but it didn’t detract much from the overall experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable evening.
For anyone visiting Prague, the National Theatre is a must-see, whether you’re an opera fan or simply want to appreciate the beauty of this cultural gem. Four stars for an...

Among them, the most prestigious would be the National Theatre. Prague’s National Theatre is known as the Golden Chapel, perhaps for its golden tint just on the banks of the Vltava River. The halls are famed for Czech composer Smetana’s fine opera Libuše which today is the symbol of Czech nationalism. The National Theatre perhaps evoke more spirit of national pride compared to any other theatre. The theatre is built with donations from Czech across all of society not once but twice! The original building was devastated in a fire at the tail end of 19th century and funds were again raised by the Czechs for its reconstruction. Almost everyone had a stake in its history. I would imagine that if some of my hard-earned cash were spent building this magnificent wonder, I’ll ask for lifetime season pass to watch all the operas I...
