This restaurant served my mom, auntie and I with the most delicious steaks that we've ever had, hands down.
Before the food arrived we were treated to (and this is no understatement) the MOST delicious bread with fully roasted Garlic bulb with garlic butter and some kind of salsa as an appetizer. The garlic had obviously been slow roasted to utter perfection. I believe I was in heaven right then and there.
We chose 2x the trio of "fillets" of Wagyu, USDA and Argentinian beef (100g for each type pr. order, so 600g in total), we didn't exactly expect thick cuts like the ones we got, because we're used to "fillet" meaning thin, so we were very pleasantly surprised! The Spicy BBQ and Bearnaise sauces were to die for.
From the moment we entered, we were met with big smiles from all of the waiters, we felt more welcome here than in any other restaurant in Prague or basically anywhere else we've ever been. We're from Denmark and only visited this place on the last night, and we're so sad we didn't choose this restaurant as the first one, so we had the chance of eating there for three nights. In Prague we've basically only been met with "RBF" (Resting B*h Face) throughout our stay with very few exceptions. But El Gaucho had the most friendly and attentive staff ever.
There were no "fixed tables" for each waiter (of which there were many standing around and scoping for guests needing service), so we had a total of around 6 or 7 different faces come over to our table asking if everything was satisfactory (and oh boy were we ever satisfied?! I THINK SO!) and we were sitting all the way in the back next to a kitchen in the furthest corner least visible, because we hadn't reserved a table beforehand. So they must've been EXTREMELY alert to every guest in the restaurant.
We're likely to never visit Prague again, but if we ever do, this will be the spot we go to eat each night.
The bill was just below 6000 CZK for the food, a beer, two Cokes and a big bottle of water, sounds expensive, but we couldn't have gotten a better feast than we did even back home in Denmark, and definitely not with this level of service. We left them with a bit over 20% in tips, because the staff definitely earned it.
I hope the staff from Sunday on the 1st December reads my praise and feel a sense of pride in the quality they deliver. And to the young aspiring Software Developer from Bangladesh, may you reach Denmark and accomplish your goals! You're a true delight to have as a waiter and...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting experience. Our group of friends- 7 persons - decided to have a dinner at this restaurant at Dusni Street, they said that they will accommodate us, however did not mention at any point that there are some "special " restaurant rule according to which they are unable to split the bills for "big" groups. We placed an order - nothing to be shared, f.e. bottle of wine that would at least technically be difficult to split - couple of people ordered the starters, and everyone ordered a main course. The menu is pricey- the atmosphere is intended to impress, however the waitress' vibe was the vibe of unpleasant person who can not even hide how bothered she was by our presence, although we did not make any special requests, did not require any extra attention, just group of friends chatting. Although it's almost impossible to have a conversation there due to extremely loud music. After an hour wait 3 of us got the starters - soup ... I repeat myself it took one hour to bring 3 soups to the table...after finishing soups it took another 45 minutes of waiting to get our main courses. It appeared on the table right when we decided to leave already being tired of waiting for so long - all these time 4 of us had just slice of bread. And at the end of our dinner when we asked them to split the bill - based on families: 3 and 4 persons, not even for each single person - we found out that the waitress won't do it. The manager we called for, repeated the same nonsense and couldn't even explain the reasoning for this absurd statement. Having some experience of working in F&B industry made this entire situation especially ridiculous- I know that technically the order software has no problem in resolving this situation, they just do not appreciate the customer enough to satisfy their needs. Which rises a question- do you want to spend a lot of your hard-earned money in the place where staff is not friendly and not happy to work to help you to enjoy a meal and create wonderful...
Read more(Reposting as management had my last review deleted). We had high hopes as this was our favourite steak restaurant in Vietnam; the roast garlic and bread entrée still delights, and the side dishes + sauces were all good.
However, unfortunately my T-Bone steak was awful. Of the 500g weight - around 100g was edible, the rest was just thick fat (running in large rubbery veins throughout the meat and down the side). I appreciate this may be some people's cup of tea. It was also very poorly butchered, and the entire fillet portion was missing. This was not 'marbling' - I've had the finest grade kobe wagyu in the world, I love marbling. This was just poor quality beef.
The worst part was the attitude of the waitress - I explained my complaint to her, and I was dismissed and told I was wrong and didn't know what a T-Bone is. Sorry, but I've eaten steak in much higher-end places and much cheaper places than El Gaucho, and have had much better meat at both ends of the spectrum. I don't need to be "educated" about the cut, the cattle or the trimming - I used to work as a food critic.
She also made a nasty comment when my wife asked if they had any non-alcoholic cocktails, telling her "some fizzy lemonades, they are like kids drinks... This is a steakhouse." Very rude and...
