Having a look at other people's reviews before deciding to have a dinner here for our wedding anniversary, has been a massive mistake. Let's start by acknowledging and appreciating the social mission that the restaurant has; this review, by the way, will be focused on the place itself and the food they serve.
First of all, when booking the table, we kindly asked for a NICE table, which i guess has been probably misunderstood with a BAD one, as we got a spot just a meter away from the dishwashing area.
We proceeded to order a beer and an ice tea, which had to be changed to a lavender lemonade, because no longer available (?). Sadly the taste wasn't nice at all, as i expect those type of flavours in a SPA environment and not to enjoy some food in a restaurant. Also, was the drink supposed to have berries inside? Not sure.
We get our first starter (the cheese platter) a good 5 to 10 minutes before the drinks. Nothing to say about it really. The same we can't say for the other dish (Garlic soup) which had no garlic flavour at all. Just potatoes in a broth.
The worst part has actually been with the main dishes, because when the side tastes better than the pricipal ingredient, there is a problem. I went for the duck dish which had no duck at all, and not because this is a funny joke on a vegan dish, but because what i got was basically a ball of no-existing flavour whatsoever, accompanied by what is referred in Prague as 'bread dumplings' (wich tastes pretty much as undercooked bread) and red cabbage.
My wife went for the 'No Ribs in plum sauce' where the only decent part has been the caramelization of the meat, as that one itself not only was tasteless, but also burned. Not to mention a blend salad without any condiment whatsoever. I'll save just the caramelized onions on the side.
We ended up finishing the dishes only because we don't like to waste any food but unfortunately, we couldn't really have any more sips of our drinks.
"No dessert thanks, we are full!" "The check please!" I would have loved to leave a tip there and a good review now, but maybe someone else will have a better experience than us.
This is sad also on a bigger scale, as Prague is not a vegan friendly city at all. If than the options are not very very good, those ones wanting to try and eventually switch their lifestyle to a vegan one, will never be engaged enough to do so.
Please, team behind Střecha, do your best...and...

Two of us came in yesterday afternoon, pretty hungry and tired. The guy behind the counter didn’t even bother to say hello, he ignored us for a while, which already gave a bad impression. When he finally came over, he told us flatly there was no chance of getting a table without a reservation. We noticed there was a table reserved for 30 minutes later, so we asked if we could just sit there for something quick. He was resolute: no. Fine, I thanked him for his “hospitality,” and we left. But then a young woman, another foreign traveler, invited us to join her and her friend at their table for four. Beautiful! So we did. But the same guy came over and lectured us in front of everyone: “You cannot do this. I am the one who decides here, not you. The two of you need to leave.” Everyone in the restaurant looked on, the whole scene was unnecessary, ugly and unpleasant. In the end, the two other travelers decided to order their food as take-away, and they included two more meals for us as well. We all agreed to do this simply because, we all happened to be disobedient citizens, who easily refuse being treated like trash. There must be a reason for having frustrated stuff acting this way, and I sincerely hope you will take this seriously and ensure no one else has to experience something like this. P.S. If at least the food was beyond...
Read moreI used to go to the place when it was still in Žižkov. It was my favourite place near work, with a low-priced vegan lunch menu, friendly and hard-working service and good beer. I have to say the food was very good at the time, but I wouldn't say it was top notch. Subsequently, the place closed down and reappeared in downtown Prague 1. What they have done with the venue is just fabulous. A classic Czech pub, but everything is vegan? I'm not going to lie, I was more than impressed and not just because there aren't that many good places in the area.
As for the place itself, the style of the place totally suits me. Big tables, great beer, service is sometimes slower but very diligent. The food is excellent. I like to come here for the burgers and beer which the place takes more than good care of. Sometimes I come here purely for a beer with friends. The place is really spacious. I come here really often and considering the prices, the food is great and there's hardly ever anything wrong.
I can only recommend Bistro Střecha to anyone who visits Prague and would like to try our traditional food. I would also like to point out their social program and employment and help to the needy. More businesses like this.
Pros: Food & Beer, Location, Social...
