I stopped in to warm up over lunch during a weekend trip to Copenhagen. We were wondering throughout our meal why the place was so empty, when both of our meals were absolutely superb. After enjoying a large, steaming bowl of fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned mussels and a delicious coffee (with beautiful tableware and atmosphere, to boot), we went to pay. Subsequently, our waiter politely mentioned, almost in passing, that the restaurant, in fact, did not open for lunch on that day. We assume we were talking with the owner, but he could very well have also been a manager or waiter, so young and handsome as he was.
Slowly, the truth of the situation dawned on us, like mud settling to the bottom of a clear lake after a group of swimming children were called inside. Even though the restaurant wasn't open for another few hours, the owner (perhaps) admittedly didn't want to have the "uncomfortable conversation" of not having anything for us to eat, and therefore, upon our arrival, whipped up an impromptu menu of dishes that were relatively low in prep-time, and proceeded to serve us with the utmost grace and professionalism regardless.
Now, I am not suggesting that you go to Je t'aime and disturb them during their prep hours, like we did. However, I do believe our experience exemplifies the character of the establishment and it's utmost proclivity towards hospitality, fast-thinking, and, of course, phenomenal food.
Thank-you, kind staff of Je t'aime, for your wonderful hospitality and affability. We will certainly be back the next time we are in Copenhagen- but don't worry, we'll check your opening...
Read moreThis is an amazing little french restaurant and we will be thinking about the food here for a long time. It's a small restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and some of the best food we've ever had. They started us with bread and a complimentary puff pastry which was amazing. We had oysters to start and they were the best oysters and perfectly shucked we have every had. For the mains my spouse had the muscles which he raced about the sauce they were in. I had the Okse bavette med bagt hvidløg & aioli which was a perfectly cut and cooked beef with an amazing aioli. I also ordered a side a fries which were the best fries I've ever had. The services was also great and even though the menu was all in danish the service was very helpful in helping us through. Take the opportunity to eat here, we cannot say...
Read moreVery cozy french bistro with the Danish hygge atmosphere. Staff is very kind and welcoming. The menu is short but there are options for everyone. French bread is homebaked daily and very tasty. Mussels were tasteful also but the smallest kind I have ever seen. Many shells were empty as well. The steak was cut in size in the kitchen. Can't get it any fresher than that. Prepared saignant (medium rare) as it should be; tender and succulent. Good wines although the first bottle of Bourgogne was corky. Should have been intercepted. Sancere is heavenly. Would come again if in the...
