Courgette Pasta Surprise in a Self-Service Setting
Vapiano in Tallinn’s Solaris centre is a modern omnivore venue with a few clearly marked vegan options, operating under a self-service model. Located within the Solaris shopping centre, the restaurant enjoys a prime city-centre position and spans a few terraced stories, giving it a spacious and airy feel.
Guests sit at clean tables equipped with QR codes to access the menu and place orders by mobile phone. Once prepared, food is collected from designated counters, an efficient system, though it naturally lacks the personal interaction of traditional service. A charming detail is the availability of fresh basil plants on the tables, diners are welcome to pick leaves and garnish their meal, adding a lovely touch of freshness.
I tried the Pasta Cream No Pollo, choosing courgette instead of traditional pasta. The dish was light and well balanced, with the courgette cooked al dente; firm enough to hold its form without going soggy, which worked well alongside the mild cream sauce.
Prices were somewhat on the higher side considering the absence of full table service, though the quality of ingredients and pleasant setting may help justify the...
Read moreI’ve been visiting this fast-food restaurant for years, but it’s become a shadow of its former self. The service is consistently poor—staff seem utterly indifferent, whether it’s keeping the self-service counters stocked with basics like forks, water, or bread (they’re constantly running out, and no one restocks them until you point it out), or simply showing a bit of enthusiasm. There’s absolutely no flexibility with requests, and the workers often look like they’d rather be anywhere else.
As for the food, it’s just not good anymore. (I just spent a summer in Italy so I remember what does it's supposed to taste like.) The pasta, which used to be the highlight, has been oversalted and dry every single time I’ve visited over the past two years. It’s incredibly disappointing to see such a decline in quality. I had planned to bring an Italian friend here, hoping it might still live up to its old reputation, but after my latest visit, that idea is off the table.
Sadly, I can no longer recommend this place—it’s simply not...
Read moreA nice restaurant with some innovative touches. You order food either from the kiosk or from the cashier. Your food is then made fresh from either the salad, pizza or one of the 5 pasta stations. When your food is ready, they send you a text. There are loads of fresh bread near the food stations and you can cut as many slices as you want for free. There are plenty of clean glasses at the bar with pitchers of iced water again for free. The food is fresh and delicious. I enjoyed a few different pasta dishes over a few visits, while my wife just loved the Caesar salad. There is plenty of olive oil, chilli -oil and balsamic vinegar available at all seating areas. The prices are very competitive and the atmosphere is very relaxed and communal seating. The decor is modern with lots of light coloured wood and big windows. I would recommend this restaurant and would visit one of their other restaurants...
