Less than 1 star I give!!! Incredibly bad service and food (well if I can call the thing that I ate «food»). Bad impression started from the beginning. There was a waiting line and there was a French man in front of me, he liked to talk to the young lady the cashier, and their talk was continuing during like 5 min! He already paid and was continuing to chat with her and I was waiting behind. Seemed like she liked it so she didn’t even care that I was just waiting. I went to this place only because it was the closest one to the Aiguille du Midi lift, during my waiting time. They perfectly know they will have clients (tourists only) all year long so they don’t care at all about quality of service! Then it was finally my time to order and I took an «egg sandwich», I asked it hot so the same lady put it on the paper and then inside the oven. Surprisingly the fire started!!! She took it out, there was already an open fire in the room and she started to scream. Some colleagues came to help and somehow they stopped the fire. Then (no surprise) they just gave me that sandwich that was on fire. When I tried it I couldn’t believe someone could prepare it, seems like that person has big problems with his/her taste buds. Inside there was a disgusting mix of mayonnaise and ketchup, all with egg and bad quality bread. I went to the same lady to let her know that the taste was disgusting. And you know what she said? She just said «oh yes I know». No sorry, nothing. This place really spoiled my impression from Chamonix village. If you don’t want to have the same experience just don’t go there, better to...
Read moreNice and cozy place close to the cable car station. I had a "pain au chocolat" with a cappuccino and my girlfriend had a "ramequin". The prices for the food is a bit high. My meal was 1,50 euro, which wasn't too bad, but the cappuccino was 3 euro and the ramequin was 3,90 euro. A lot of the other sandwiches and coffee options were also very pricey. On the other hand, the food and cappuccino were super nice! The pain au chocolat was warm, so the chocolate was nicely melted. The staff also spoke English super well (the guy behind the counter was quick to switch to English when he heard I was struggling with my French), which is not a common thing in France so a super nice suprise! Also, behind the place is a super nice terrace where you can quietly sit away from the busy main street and have the company of sone super cute birds wanting to have some of your crumbs. Overall, it's a nice place that's cosy and easy accessible for a quick lunch, although not...
Read moreNot all baguettes are created equal, and the ones here are a step above.
I had one here my first day in Chamonix. When I returned, I got baguettes from a few different places, including a supermarket (I know, but it was late on a Sunday though) and a couple other boulangeries. But they didn’t quite hit the spot and got became stale faster than the one I had at Le Fournil. So I went 10 minutes out of my way one morning to get a baguette from here to see if it really was better, and to me, IT REALLY IS. The “baguettes fournil” are crunchy but soft and hit the SPOT. This is only my second review on Google because I liked it so much.
I’ve had better quiches elsewhere, and I’ll let others speak to the other treats as I have t had them. But I know this is the spot for me for a good baguette...
