It’s not our first time in Cannes, and each time we are back we visit Moka for breakfast almost everyday. The place is very nice, it is in the city centre near the main rode - rue d’Antibes. I must say one of the nicest places in terms of design of the place that we have been to in Cannes. It has a great vibe and nice atmosphere. The menu - breakfast as well as the one from 11:30 lunch menu are very big. Many options both for ones wanting to eat traditional local pastries, ones wanting something larger like avocado toast or club sandwich or ones wanting a lighter or a healthier option such as granola, yoghurt or fruit. Every meal we had and we basically had almost each from the menu throughout our stays in Cannes was super good. We always left satisfied with the food. Great smoothies, good coffee, big portions, super fresh produce and delicious meals.
However there is a one major issue that we have witnessed during both of our stays - service. The level of service depends on the day you are visiting. Sometimes the service is very fast even though the place is full and sometimes the service is terribly slow as well as magically the waiters forget your order. We feel like the service doesn’t stand up to the level of the food as well the location of the restaurant. Breakfast are until 11:30, however this all depends on the mood of the waitresses. We have witnessed many similar circumstances of people getting annoyed with the service. For instance at the table beside us there were two Russians. They ordered eggs and granola and a bottle of San Pelegrino (to make things clear there were only four people in the restaurant at that time). They managed to finish more than a half of their meal and still didn’t revive their water. They were very angry and dissatisfied that they managed to eat almost their whole meal before getting their water. On the other day I kindly asked for a teaspoon and for the next 25 min I had to ask four different people until someone finally came and gave it to me. I’m sorry, but this is not acceptable. However on the contrary, one day when the restaurant was full, we have received our late breakfast (a salad and a club sandwich) in less than 15 min, therefore super fast. I don’t understand the dependency between the amount of people and the level of service on a given day … because you would expect to wait longer for your order when the place was full.
To sum up we definitely recommend this place if you are willing to accept that the service will not be equally good each day. However, if you are looking for a close and nice place with good food and drinks in Cannes to enjoy your breakfast, you should visit this place. We hope that the service will be better next year as we will...
Read moreWe walked by this restaurant the day before and were immediately drawn in by its charming decor and the fact that it was full of people. It made to come here the next morning for breakfast.
Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be very disappointing.
To start with, my utensils and napkin were both dirty. There were four of us, and we ordered water, coffee, juice, avocado toasts, an omelet, yogurt, croissants and fruits.
After about 10 minutes, they brought only two toasts and the omelet. We politely reminded the server that we had asked for water. Another 10 minutes passed before we reminded them again that we were still waiting for our juice and coffee, we had hoped to start our breakfast with as normally people do. Yet another 10 minutes later, we had to remind them once more that one of us still hadn’t received her yogurt. We were all waiting so we could eat together. The waiter responded by saying the yogurt comes from a different kitchen and that they had no control over the timing.
As a bonus to the already slow and disorganized service, the food was honestly terrible. The avocado seemed to be made from a paste, not fresh, and the vegetable omelet had completely raw vegetables inside — the tomatoes were simply sliced and wrapped in the egg without being cooked at all.
To top things off, when we received the bill, we noticed it included two croissants that we never received. When they finally realized we never got the croissants, they asked if we’d like to take them to go. At the end, they apologized and removed the water from the bill as a courtesy :)
This place seems to be highly marketed, which may explain why it has so many customers and a decor probably that looks nice. Definitely would...
Read moreI liked yellow seat covers. Groan. The young, groomed-but-ineffectual surly staff are the tell. Upon making a service complaint (requests from two staff for wifi), rather than calming things, staff escalated to spitefulness of the 'Its not my problem, because it wasn't me you spoke to' sort. I politely pointed out that when speaking to employees you/vous is plural and normally refers to representatives of any business. The viciousness of tone intensified and she turned her back on us. If it wasn't her we had been complaining about it is now! You, yes you, all of their waitering staff, you work in hospitality. Please remember which way the money flows. But most importantly, the good manners your parents taught you are always there to fall back on when you have a tough day. Good luck going forward. We can be a tough crowd, but we are your crowd. Im sure you'll find a Cannes anti-tourists Facebook group to workshop it out on. PS upon payment after witnessing a pregnant woman being told off for thirst and another man leaving claiming he'd been short changed 10euros i decided to test whether the 'you' sing/pl was an innocent mistake in translation. I jokingly enquired whether the €35 Negroni might be cheap compared to hotel bar prices in Cannes...expecting a cheeky glance of mutually understood humor. No. This time you was taken in the plural. These attacks on their customers would appear to be a well-rehearsed ploy of 'attitude venimeuse'. My salad was stewed and sweaty, the avocado toast like a packed lunch. The Negroni...
