Finally, I have visited my most awaited Indian restaurent of Strasbourg. Below I have put my very sincere and detailed review based on the entire experience. There were 6 people with whom I went to this restaurant and as an Indian myself, I was trying to help my colleagues with the food orders. Finally we ordered food both for vegetarians (that is including me) and our non-vegetarian colleagues: In starters,we took Vegetable Samosa, Aaloo tikki and Rose Lassi. While in main-course we took Paneer Makhani, Cinnamon Vegetable curry, Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. To start with, the samosa and the chutney served with it were excellent. I would say that this was very close to authentic taste. Aaloo Tikki was also very good. Rose lassi was a bit way too sweet , even for me as an Indian. Similarly, the Paneer Makhani was very nicely presented, the quality of Paneer was great too, however the gravy was a bit too sweet. I asked my non-vegetarian colleague if it was the same with butter chicken and she confirmed me that indeed it was way too sweet. I think it is important to reduce a bit of sugar in these two dishes so that the taste is even more enjoyable and sweetness doesn't overpower the other flavors. I tried the mixed Vegetable curry and to my surprise, it was prepared in South Indian style, that means it was prepared with coconut cream. In north of India, this is not prepared with flavors of coconut and hence this is completely subjective to one's taste. If you are looking for a proper north indian vegetable curry then this dish may not be for you, though it tasted good. The quality of rice served with all the main-course was very good too. The garlic naans were very nicely prepared and gave a great taste to the curries. Overall the experience was good and it is a good value for money place. I hope the restaurant can work on some of the suggestions I have put above, I hope this can even further improve the taste...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Cinnamon after looking at the reviews and photos of the food. The inside of the restaurant was clean and had a pleasant atmosphere. We ordered one order of samosas (2 pieces), one order of chicken tikka masala which came with Basmati rice, and an order of plain naan. The presentation of the food was pleasant enough. However, we had to ask for the trio of chutney that was to be accompanied with the samosas. It was promptly brought out to us upon request.
The samosas are not like the typical Indian samosas I'm used to eating. The potatoes are cut up into small pieces rather than mashed and have very little flavor. Without the chutney, there would be no real flavor at all.
The chicken tikka masala was spiced medium as per our request. The chicken was cut up into four large cubes of meat which were very tender. The flavor itself was very light. We could, however, taste the spiciness despite the overall lack of flavor of the dish. The rice was okay as was the naan.
Overall, I would say the food is okay as was the service and ambiance of the restaurant, but...
Read moreThe food was truly excellent, full of flavor but in a subtle way. Every dish looked and tasted amazing and the portions are just right - in many Indian restaurants the portions are way too large but here there is a perfect balance. Many other reviewers mention the food is bland, that’s not the case at all. Yes, it’s not spicy but that means you can actually appreciate the flavours. We were with 2 kids and they also approved big time. Good vegetarian options as well. The service was great too, very helpful and attentive. I would say that for the truly, truly amazing food, the restaurant itself and its interior design is a little bit of a letdown - it’s ok but honestly the food deserves better: more intimate seating, better lighting, maybe some plants? There are also a few tables outside but they face onto a cramped sidewalk of a noisy street with a tram. Anyway, really happy with our...
