This was an experience! It started off well- we were greeted instantly, taken to a nice table within a minute of us coming inside the restaurant. We ordered starters and drinks and the food was served in 15 mins. The Chicken 65 tasted really authentic, and the Mutton Keema balls were exceptional. The Kerala parota could be better. Halfway through the starters we ordered the mains- a repeat of the parota and Chicken Chettinad curry. This is where is all went down the drain- firstly the food took 25 mins to come, we were done with starters and had been waiting for a while now. The moment we served the chicken- it smelled fishy! Either the chicken had gone bad or the gravy masala had gone bad- but immediately we knew it was off. We had only taken a bite of the parathas to taste the curry and gave up. We called the server and told her that we didn’t want to eat this as it was not good and smelled off. Her first reaction was- “Okay, let me take it back to the kitchen to check if it is indeed bad”. It was almost like she doubted us. I then requested her to get the bill as we didn’t want to continue the meal. She then said she will remove that item from the bill. No apologies yet. The bill still didn’t come for 10 more minutes and she only rushed to us when we got up and started putting out jackets on. I asked her to remove the 2nd round of parotas from the bill as he didn’t even eat more than a bite as we had to send them away. She refused, saying “I can’t do that, there was nothing wrong with the parathas”. It was only when I insisted that the bill be revised and because I hope she didn’t expect us to eat the parota with rice, that she agreed and revised the bill. And then came the apology.
Anjappar team- for a regular visitor to your Bangalore branch, this experience has completely put us off. As good as the initial food items were, the below average customer service is not acceptable. Won’t be coming back here...
Read moreFrom an American perspective: Food is amazing, very friendly service. Whether it was a language barrier or just unsure of what and how to order here(most likely this lol) there was a confusion on what two mains we ordered. For example, when ordering the chettinad chicken roast/Marsala in the curry section, you could not understand that lyou could just order the chicken dry or with the Marsala. We ended up with naan bread and a butter chicken when we order a chettinad chicken masala also. She asked if we were okay/finished, and we exclaimed that we were still missing a dish. Long story short we had got an additional butter chicken and the original chettinad chicken to which they brought us an roasted chicken version of that as a piece offering. We honestly were happy and satisfied and did not care what we got only that it tasted absolutely amazing. Finally, the manager came by and asked us what had happened. We explained that we ordered these three things and then only got 2 of them and missing rice on one dish and ended up with another butter chicken, roast and masala chettinad chx. We told her we all to happy to pay it was no worries we are on vacation and we don't care. Everything tastes amazing and we are starving lol. She apologized profusely insisting that it was a kitchen mistake and that we do not have to pay for the extra dish. Very very kind and we know service is quite different in Europe than America. I understood it to be a soft opening, which these things are expected to happen. As a fellow food service worker, I greatly appreciated her willingness to understand and accommodate. Lovely human.
Delicious Indian cuisine after seeing the main sights in Berlin. Definitely...
Read moreBest South Indian restaurant in Berlin: authentic taste straight from Tamil Nadu! 🇮🇳✨
Anjappar Chettinad is, without doubt, the best South Indian restaurant in Berlin right now. I ordered the Chicken Chettinad meal along with a Nannari Sharbat, and everything was absolutely soul-satisfying. From the first bite to the last, the flavours were heavenly. Rich, spicy, and deeply authentic, just like you’d expect in Tamil Nadu.
What impressed me even more was the hospitality. The staff are warm, attentive, and thoughtful. They even brought us an extra plate in case I wanted to share some of my meal with my friends. It was such a small detail, but it shows how much they care about their guests.
The thali was beautifully presented with a perfect balance of curries, vegetables, chutneys, and fresh chapati, served alongside fluffy rice. Every dish had its own character. Aromatic , spicy, and bursting with authentic South Indian flavours that are incredibly rare to find in Berlin. The Nannari Sharbat was refreshing and complemented the meal so well. It really felt like India in every sip.
For us, dining here wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience that transported us straight back to Tamil Nadu. It’s very rare to find such genuine authenticity in Indian food abroad, and Anjappar truly delivers it.
If you’re craving real South Indian cuisine, whether you’re from Tamil Nadu or just someone who loves exploring authentic flavours like me, this place is a must-visit. We left with full hearts, happy stomachs, and the strong feeling that we had just enjoyed one of the best...
