A review especially for wheelchair users and anyone else needing to not use stairs. Well, best of luck to you because this place listed itself on google as "accessible", and well it isn't. Did they make an effort sort of, yes. Because they knew I had just wheeled through the ruins of athens to get there because the taxi driver didn't want to drop me off anywhere near it.
It's not accessible. There are no "invalid lifts", there are no ramps, they have the old fashioned slopes that you stick one wheel in and the other wheel in, and pray to god you don't die, but there is no way anyone independent can go up this alone, because they have so many stair cases, and have to use the same two cheaply made slope slots for each time and each moment you need them. And that's after they make a big song and dance about having to go find them in a closet somewhere....seriously!
You'd think, oh hopefully it will be "worth it", because maybe like me, you enjoy visiting this franchise all over the world, but like many of them these days, Hard Rock Cafe for some odd reason purposefully places their restaurant in "old towns" and "inaccessible" areas because it seems more "trendy and cool".
Perhaps if the overly priced food was good enough to drown out and gloss over the fact that you just aren't accessible, maybe I wouldn't be bothering to write this at all, but I feel obligated to, since I wouldn't want anyone else turning up there thinking they are going to have a super duper hard rock cafe experience in a wheelchair, when they just won't, because Hard Rock Cafe can't be bothered to rebuild the interior of their restaurants purposely put in super duper old buildings, and then use the excuse, "Oh we aren't allowed", yeh well, then
don't keep saying you accept "everyone", when clearly ya don't. Don't keep opening up in old listed buildings because you think you will make more money.
You are going to lose people who have supported you for years purely based on the notion you might be the one capitalistic entity who sort of cared about "disabled" people. But I have been to so many of these places now, and they are all the same, and it has become quite obvious the only thing they care about is making money! And I guess like every other place in the world, there is that backward bigoted thinking that people who have mobility issues don't have any?????? Well--your loss!
Give it a miss, and go to the Hilton, where it is nothing like what you want, but at least they...
Read moreMy first negative review. I strongly believe that service is as important as the food and atmosphere. Hard Rock Cafe Athens advertised a happy hour outside their restaurant, which stated we would get 75% off our second drink per person betwen 21:00-23:00. We discussed this with our server at the beginning. He initially wrongly advised us that happy hour drinks were only from 22:00 onwards, but corrected himself after looking at the menu which clearly stated from 21:00. Following this, we placed our orders with him, clearly confirming that we wanted to utilise the happy hour offer, which he agreed to. We also ordered food as well. When we had finished our first drinks and wanted our "happy hour" (reduced price) drink, our server pointed to another menu and said we should have ordered our first drinks from this one instead to get the offer. We were told that none of the drinks we ordered in our first round qualified for the "happy hour." We asked why this wasn't communicated with us when we clearly stated we wanted to utilise the happy hour offer at the beginning, but were essentially told it was our fault for not checking. We decided against having extra drinks, and paid the bill without a fuss, but we were disappointed about the poor communication and misleading information provided about a heavily advertised offer. It was also upsetting to see that after this was pointed out to the server, the response was to blame us rather than acknowledge the misunderstanding, which tainted our evening. Perhaps they should train the...
Read moreWonderful experience! We had dinner at Hard Rock Athens and returned the day after to have a milkshake. For dinner, we sat at the front part of the restaurant that overlooks the street. Our server Georgia was very friendly and wanted to make sure we had a great dinner. Very American-style service, which is obviously part of the restaurant concept. The food was great, we both had the Bacon BBQ burger with cheese and bacon fries. We spent 10 days in Greece and after countless souvlakis, gyros and moussaka's, we were happy to have a burger! We also each had a soft drink. We paid €37 for two main courses and two drinks, which I thought was defintely worth it. It's not the cheapest place in Athens (but let's be honest, you don't expect that when walking into Hard Rock), but also not the most expensive. The prices were good for a popular restaurant in the middle of Athens most touristy area. We loved the atmosphere in the part of the restaurant we were in. The next day we returned for a milkshake in the afternoon and decided to sit at the main dining room. This part had louder music, but the theming was kinda bland beside the iconic guitars and other memorabilia, this part of the restaurant didn't give me Hard Rock feel. I recommend sitting in the front part of the restaurant (on your right when you enter) when dining here. Milkshakes were €6 each.
Overall a great experience, great food and...
