While I was waiting in line to order, I was looking at the kitchen and wondering: what makes this place so busy? and why do people love to get their food from here?
The place is very small and for sitting I was there in an unfortunate time (there are constructions next to it), but I have seen pictures and I know that the sitting is small and nothing too special.
The food though, I cannot explain how well made the meat is, they are the Athenian masters of meat. The sandwich looks exactly like most of the other greek street food you find anywhere in the world. I have tried greek food in many countries and in different places, but this one hits HARD. They have a special tomato sauce which makes it taste familiar yet new. The meat is good quality and made very well, medium rare ish, juicy and well cooked.
The staff are getting your order from you in front of the kitchen, where you can see your food made, literally, in front of your face as you are in the line to order. Very kind and caring. I think after all the charm this restaurant has gone back to the staff and the love they put in for this job.
Make sure you have time before going, not a quick line usually. There are not many options but whatever you eat here is going to be AMAZING.

Read moreTourist hype job. Not even authentic souvlaki on a spit, no chicken, no lamb, just beef and pork cooked on a grill plate. No tzatziki just tomato based sauce. Bread is good but little filling, have to eat two then having all this bread. Tastes good, sure, price can’t complain at 3 euro, yes, but not authentic and not better than what we can get back home in Australia. The business model Is completely broken, Why sell me a 3 euro stingy wrap when in the main tourist hub you can easily charge 10+ euro or more for a decent souvlaki. If it tastes good and it’s legit I’m happy to get ripped off, I’ll even come back for more. I’m just surprised; this is touted as one of the best even by locals, perhaps better compared to what else is around. A sad story and a major ball drop with food in athens. what’s the point of coming to Greece if trying to find a decent authentic souvlaki - one of the national dishes - in the capital city is like trying to get hens teeth. What will it take for someone to come and step up to the mark and offer a proper souvlaki and make loads of money at the same time. It’s mind boggling, the customers are there in huge numbers but businesses refuse to give them what they want, yet all these 5 star...
Read moreWe came across Kostas through a search of most authentic places to eat. The reviews were on point so we decided to take the trip. Upon arrival there were many restaurants around but only one with a line coming out of it. Without seeing the name we knew that had to be Kostas. The smells alone were enough to make your mouth water as people walked past with their skewers and gyros. Sound of sizzling pork and beef became the intro to what would be a fantastic lunch. I ordered the pork gyro, my partner got the beef and we shared pork skewers. After long anticipation we finally got our order. I started with the skewers, first bite, packed with flavor, so tender and the juice from the pork just dripping as your teeth sink in. These guys know a thing or to about loading up on the spices to create an amazing taste. Second, I move to my gyro, the tomatoes we so rip and marinated, the freshness in that fist bite was unbelievable and then tying it all together with the pita, meat and onions. Hands down my favorite....
