Gerlóczy Kávéház offers a truly impressive culinary experience with its creative, well-executed dishes. I dined there yesterday and was consistently delighted by the quality of the food, though the service could use improvement. We started with a Jerusalem artichoke soup topped with a goat cheese ball, which was both rich and perfectly balanced—a flavorful beginning that set high expectations for the meal. For the main courses, we enjoyed a comforting fusilli with pumpkin and an imaginative roasted carrot dish with molasses, barley, black salsify with ginger, and blood orange sauce. Each ingredient in these dishes felt thoughtfully selected, and the flavors were unique, blending beautifully. To finish, we had the Crème Brûlée Pistachio. Its caramelized top was perfectly crisp, and the custard was creamy and smooth, making it a flawless dessert to round out the evening.

As someone living in Belgium, I was particularly curious to try the Hungarian sour cherry beer, which was delightful. It reminded me of a Belgian kriek but with a refreshing local twist that made it memorable.

While the food was outstanding, the service left something to be desired. Our waiter seemed disinterested and even a bit grumpy, which took away from the otherwise warm atmosphere the food created. Given that a service fee is already included in the bill, it’s fair to expect a more welcoming and attentive approach; the staff should ensure guests feel valued and cared for throughout their visit.

Overall, Gerlóczy Kávéház is a gem for anyone seeking high-quality, inventive cuisine in Budapest. The food alone makes it worth visiting, and with a bit more attention to the hospitality side, this restaurant could easily deliver a truly exceptional...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gerloczy Kavehaz, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the tone for a fantastic evening.

Our waiter, Balint, was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge of the menu was impressive, and he took the time to explain the dishes and offer great recommendations. He had a perfect balance of being attentive without being overbearing, always checking in at just the right moments. His friendly demeanor and genuine passion for the food made the entire dining experience feel personal and special.

The food, of course, was incredible. Each dish was prepared with care and presented beautifully. You can tell that the kitchen uses only the finest ingredients, and every bite was bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was cooked to perfection.

In short, Gerloczy Kavehaz offers not only fantastic food but also exceptional service, thanks to Balint. It's clear that both the front-of-house and kitchen staff are dedicated to providing an unforgettable dining experience. I can't wait to return! Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a great meal and...

Six of us popped in for a coffee, sweets and a hot sup. The service was less than average, the waitress looked and sounded tired and insulted of the fact that she has to serve us. When a couple entered the place while she was taking our order, she could not help them being seated right away, but with a very unfriendly gesture and comment directed them to another part of the place. I've ordered an aperol spritz, got a glass with a good portion of ice, and the drik tasted like soda with traces of aperol and prosecco. The cake I've got was a bit more dense than I expected but it tasted great. The teabag that one of us ordered was OK but the long teabag pulled the water via capillary effect out of the pot, for such places I've got used to far better solution. The soup that another person ordered was really good and tasty. The waitress was less than enthusiastic when we asked to split the bill into two. In summary the place is OK, the prices reflect the location (heart of downtown), but the service is way...

The interior of the restaurant was stylish, and the outdoor seating had a relaxing atmosphere — really enjoyable. The staff were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work, which added to the positive vibe. There was a wide variety of drinks, and everything we tried was delicious. It looked like they had several types of gin and tonics, but I didn’t get a chance to try them. It would have been even better if the staff had given more recommendations or explanations about the drinks. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The foie gras and steak pairing was especially great — they went really well together. I thought having photos of the dishes could help visitors, especially tourists, get a better idea of what to expect. Also, since many travelers want to try local (Hungarian) food, it might be good to highlight Hungarian specialties a bit more. Overall, the atmosphere and food were both wonderful, and I’d definitely love to come back!

One of my favorite Cafes in Central Europe, if not all of Europe: which I discovered years ago on one of my many visits to Budapest. The Gerloczy Kavehaz is tucked away in a beautiful quiet square, where time seems to have stood still. Yet all around, within walking distance, are the fabulous sites and attractions of the ever vibrant historical City. On my last visit in December during the Christmas Market, a fabulous time to be in Budapest, on my visit of 8 days, I must have enjoyed a dozen meals at the restaurant, as I was also staying at their classic Boutique Hotel. The breakfast specials were a favorite and very hearty. The lunch and dinner menu of Hungarian Cuisine were varied and excellent. The bar cocktails and wine selections were delicious. The ambience was wonderful as was the service. Don't forget to end dinner with a glass of Unicum Riserva, a traditional Hungarian apperitivo!
