TL;DR: Not Mexican at all, AVOID.
Longer version:
We passed this place a couple of times so decided to give it a go. Well, we were severely disappointed. I knew we couldn’t even think about tacos being anywhere close to authentic, but man, a quesadilla is usually difficult to ruin. Burritos usually also work (even though they’re not technically Mexican, but rather Tex-Mex).
This place managed to do both badly, especially the quesadillas. The most basic thing about a quesadilla — it has to have a lot of cheese (queso) inside. This one? I couldn’t find any inside, but a lot of fried onions for some reason.
The burrito was edible, but pretty meh. Beans were not the right type, there was a lot of lettuce (which I don’t find in burritos that often), there was a lot of maise, some mean, probably cheese, but I don’t remember much else. I’m not sure about spices, I don’t think they were anywhere close to the ones they use in Mexico. Green coriander (cilantro) — when I asked the guy about it, he went to dig in his list of ingredients and came back saying they "don’t have this spice" — which means he didn’t even realise I was talking about coriander leaves (and not ground seeds), which are essential in Mexican cuisine. (Needless to say there weren’t any coriander at all, leaves or seeds.)
One thing was good though — they had Jarritos, although not Tamarindo for some reason, whereas (at least to me) Tamarindo is as Mexican as you can get.
Maybe we should have tried their burger, I dunno?
We wouldn’t...
Read moreWell, I've been here four times now so, I figured that I have to drop a review. Three times purely out of convenience and the first time out of curiosity. I pass this place twice a day! On my way to work, and on my way home. If you don't, I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way for them.
Their burritos, both chicken and beef, really miss the Mexican kick and texture if you don't get them spicy. In fact, the only pronounced flavors are sweet corn and cheese. What is actually good so far, are the burgers! I was very pleased with them, when they had them. Forget the quesadillas all together.
Overall, I'd much rather get something here on the way home than any other large chain or restaurants, as sub par as the Mexican food is. I'll likely swing by here on the way home every so often to try and grab a burger. I can't vouch for any...
Read moreOn the food side: very bad in taste and size. A large burrito wasn’t really big in my opinion. Glad I didn’t go for a normal. Hardly could taste the meat, whole burrito was dominated by fried onion bits. A large quesadilla pretty much same story plus tortilla tasted burnt and little too greasy in my opinion. The place itself doesn’t awe, little space too eat inside with a wall facing table. So takeout is preferred option. Despite that it has a nice Mexican decor with what seems to be homemade art. All in all, food does not resemble good Mexican flavors. Although a service is nice and friendly, I wouldn’t recommend Kaktusz and for this price rather have...
