Started off great when they opened, fries were fresh, homemade and amazing, just like in Five Guys. It was the perfect Five Guys copycat, including the overall design but in green. The menu was just perfect: simple and great, nothing more, nothing less.
However, lately I unfortunately experienced two deal breakers:
The French fries are now frozen fries, which is not cool since from the very beginning they advertised that they’re using local farms to obtain their potatoes. They’re not fresh, mine were almost cold, the quality of french fries decreased from 9/10 to 3.5/10, at least in my book. I made these observations within a two week timeframe, I went twice to Simon’s Burger Astoria.
Meat patties are noticeably smaller compared to when they opened
I think they can turn this around if they fix these issues, primarily the fries fiasco. I can live with a smaller but still decent burger patty, but not with subpar fries. I’ll give them another shot next week near Szervita square, and if it sucks then I’m not coming back anytime soon.
If you’re in the neighbourhood and want a Five Guys-like experience, then it’s still a decent option, but avoid the fries unless the bartenders confirm they’re not frozen and from...
Read moreThis was the worst burger I’ve ever had in my life, and it felt like a crime! It was a Wolt delivery order, and right from the start, there was a bad smell coming from the burger. I got curious and opened it up to see what was inside, and found pieces of smelly, sticky onions that seemed boiled instead of caramelized. Underneath the meat, there were some lettuce leaves that were visibly dirty, which you can see in the photo. There was also some sauce beneath that. Even the tomatoes didn’t seem washed, and they looked spoiled. As for the burger patty itself, I couldn’t even tell what kind of meat it was, and was completely tasteless. The only thing that resembled a burger was the bun! After a few bites, I realized it was completely inedible and threw it away. I just hope I don’t get sick from it. To make things worse, they even put those terrible onions on the fries I ordered with the burger. Why would anyone do that? It completely ruined...
Read moreSimon's Burgers is a delicious American style burger place in downtown Budapest. The burgers are juicy, flavorful and freshly made. It is kind of like a mix of Smashburger, In-N-Out and Five Guys. The menu is limited, however very tasty if you like good burgers. The service is, well, very Hungarian. You can stand at the front of the line for 5-10 mins before anyone even acknowledges your presence. The food takes a while to prepare, but it is fresh and tasty once done. Finally a place in Eastern Europe where you can squeeze as much ketchup on your fries as youd like without paying extra for the ketchup (they have mayonnaise as well for you frieks!). All in all, probably the tastiest burgers in Budapest. Parking is a nightmare so walk or take the transit. Easy walk from either Astoria, Ferenciek tere, or Deak ter metro stations. One recommendation, to find some local beer, like Budapest Beer, and start serving beer with those...
