I've been to Dakota several times now, mostly just for drinks, but on this occasion my girlfriend and I decided to go in for a bit of lunch. It was about half two on a Saturday afternoon, the lunch rush was over, and while the place was not empty it certainly could not have been described as busy.
When we walked in there were several staff members at the far end of the bar. We stood for about a minute, and when the staff made no sign of approaching, we seated ourselves. Menues were on the table, and we perused them for about ten/fifteen minutes, still with no sign of the staff showing any interest in us. During this time several people had walked in, sat for five minutes, then left. My girlfriend then went up to the bar, in case that's where we were supposed to order from, and was told it's table service. We were eventually approached by a server, who took our order with a resentful "What do you want" and "what else?"
The food too was slow in coming, though it was delicious. I had the southern fried chicken burger, which I'd recommend if you have the patience of a saint.
Once we'd finished, we sat with empty plates for another while, intending to request the bill when they came to clear our plates away. This never happened, and so we settled at the bar and left over an hour after we'd walked in.
Slow service and unfriendly staff does not encorage a return visit, nor a...
Read moreHad a really disappointing experience here last weekend due to a rude, extremely arrogant bouncer. My friend was on the street approaching the bar, where the rest of her friends were sat inside. She dropped her hat, picked it up and carried on towards the door. The bouncer perceived this action as her being "too drunk" to come in, had his mind made up in an instant and wouldn't listen to mine or any argument and supporting evidence to the contrary. The bar was full of drunk people both inside and outside and he didn't bat an eyelid to these people but targeted my friend. We returned to the bar an hour later via the entrance of the connecting pub at the back and joined our friends at a table. He sought her out again and evicted her from the bar despite that fact that she was just sitting with the rest of us and not acting messy in the slightest. My friend is a person of colour so I feel there was a potential racist element that is worth noting. He was also drinking a can of alcohol while on the job which baffles me that a bar would find this acceptable for security staff to do while working. This guy was on an extreme power trip and took great pleasure in kicking my friend out for literally no reason. Won't be returning and will be warning others...
Read moreMy friend celebrated her birthday yesterday at Dakota and we had a terrible experience. Everyone ordered some food and all the food came together but the birthday girl did not get her food. Then she asked for it and they just said I'm sorry the kitchen is closed now we can't do anything. ALL her guests had food and she didn't. And she explained it was her birthday and the waitress offered a burger for free and she accepted it. Then the waitress came with another dish, that wasn't burger even her order. It was a shame. The waitress then came with her burger and offered some drinks for free. The birthday girl chose her drink and the waitress said sorry we can't give you that, choose another one. Suddenly the waitress came with the bill and said sorry I can't split the bill, just one person has to pay for everyone. It was fine we could do that but then she said she could split in two(??) If she can split in two, everyone could pay separately. The other friend ordered Irish coffee and the waitress said the coffee machine was closed, they couldn't make it. But then the expresso martini they made, that's also make with coffee. Seriously, the service was terrible I don't...
