I went in last Sunday after I'd finished a rather gruelling shift in work. I needed sustenance in the form of a pint and a bit of bar food. I asked the barman what was the lay of the land regarding me getting my sustenance and he said to take a seat and someone would grab my order. The place is huge and though not that busy there were people dotted in all corners of the joint. I found seats but I had an obscured view of the television. The football was on and I wanted to watch it. The barman approached me but I informed him I'd sit at the bar instead. I asked him about ales on draught and on our return to the the bar he pleasantly listed them for me. He seemed to be running the whole gig himself including running his own food but that didn't stop him from very amicably shooting downstairs to grab me a delicious crisp pint of cute hoor. It may have been the day I had but that pint was pure magic. I took a big deep ruby, tingling, refreshing gulp of that pint which charged me to make the tough decision of what to eat. I wanted dinner later but I was also quite hungry so I opted for a starter portion of wings and a side of chips. I wasn't expecting much but boy did they surpass my expectations. From my own personal experiences with bar food it can go any which way, so I was braced for disappointment. But I was very pleasantly surprised. The wings were cooked just right, swimming but not drowning in a hot sauce that wasn't a please all temperature but a brave four out of five spicy, it cleared your sinuses but I didn't shed any tears. The chips were simply perfect. Chips are like cups of tea. We all like them tailored the way we want them but when done right they'll warm the soul. These chips were nearly muddy they were that sincere. Real potatoes, no gimics, just like a chipper's chips. The bar had atmosphere, with a few lads and ladies watching the game, even with their rose tinted scouse glasses on they were entertaining to be around. The only reason I'm docking a star is that the decor in this place is horrendous. It doesn't suit the place. The staff are charming, witty and efficient the decor would make you believe its a pub trying to be a club from 2004. Dark with neon splattered pointlessly all over the place. But you don't need to suffer the decor just go as far as the bar inside the door, pull up a seat and enjoy...
Read moreVentured into O’Connells bar this week on the way to a gig in Aviva stadium, the place was RAMMED in the afternoon and only two staff on that I could see. A short haired lady took our orders for food and drinks, apologised for the delays, but in fairness she was playing a stormer under VERY difficult circumstances! Two pints of the black stuff were absolute perfection and served by the lady with a smile and apologies for delay again. The food arrived and was just what was needed to go with a few pints before a evening at the concert, it was great!
Toilets were also clean , tidy , fresh & well stocked, despite how bonkers busy it was, credit to the cleaning staff
Premises was emptying out when we were also finishing up and the staff were still flat out cleaning and clearing after the onslaught they had just endured. We had two for the road at the bar, chat with the staff was very friendly and made us want to stay, but the music beckoned at the Aviva
Will definitely be back!!!
Also would like to note while we were there the abuse from some self entitled folks that the staff had to put up with was astonishing, both staff were being heckled and harangued beyond all reason. They both handled it well, but people need to realise when staff are busy like this, there’s only so much a person can do to facilitate your whims and desires
Maybe management could plan better staffing levels for events and nights when town is going to be busier, also noted no security staff on door to deal with hecklers and less...
Read moreCame here tonight, myself and my partner order the pasta and the cottage pie, the pie came out cold in the middle, when I sent it back I was asked by the waiter it will be 20 minutes for another one or they can microwave it 🤮, I explained I'm not paying for microwaved food, the pasta I tasted and to be fair it was nice, I would have prefared the two dishes taken away and served together but they wouldn't allow this when i asked i was told "no the pasta is ok", so we had to pay for one meal even though my wife wouldn't eat without me, the server said it comes out hot, I explained from my point of view it was not temperature checked, I will be reporting to the food safety authority of ireland and for food safety it has to meet a temperature before being served, just be aware, they seem to rely on tourist business, I ask the owner to check cctv of the kitchen and reply here publicly to ask me to come down and show me the temperature was checked, I can 100% GUARANTEE that when the FSAI come in to check that this is not case for when our meals wore served. SHAME ON YOU, I WILL CONTINUE TO POST HERE ON INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK EVERY WEEK UNTIL I GET A REPLY. ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE SERVED A MEAL TOGETHER WITH MY WIFE, ONCE WE COMPLAINED,WE WORE IGNORED, THE STAFF ASKING THE TABLE ACROSS AND BESIDE US IS EVERYTHING OK, NOBODY CAME NEAR US ONLY TO TAKE THE BILL WHEN WE...
