Currently staying at Mercure Kyoto Station, we decided yesterday to dine at their restaurant And I want to leave a review because I am upset about a point.
The food: we are 3 and all of us went for the pasta: they were perfectly cooked al dente and tasty
The downside : The service! My daughter ordered some pâté as starter. The waiter came and ask if we wanted some bread. We Said yes and wait ….. but nothing served…. we had to ask a 2nd time to another waiter to receive some bread after 15mn During the dinner, we asked for more bread since we are 3 and only 2 small pieces After a moment , a waiter came with a basket full of bread (Nice !)
But : when the bill arrived, we noticed that bread was charged 2000 ¥ !!!!!! What a shame !! At no time did the waiters mention that the bread served was for a fee !
We talked with the waiter who was smiling behind his mask, saying that is the way it is and we have to pay for the bread.
But i totally disagree with this way of doing since if had known that, we would never have placed an order.

Read moreVery good lunch in the middle of Kyoto. Make a reservation for lunch in advance, yes, the staff is ( some not all ) bilingual! It is very busy during lunchtime as Chef Harada‘s team presents a very tasty lunch set for an amazing competitive price tag. There are two choices and I had the standard version, starter, bread on the side, nice & warm, refill available. Choice of pasta, the Lasagna is huge 🤣, had Tagliatelle pomodoro , yummy. Soaked up all of the sauce with the bread. Staff is attentive, friendly and up to date with recommendations, happy hour for drinks during lunchtime, softdrink too.
Be aware, there will be a service charge added !
So why only 4 stars ? People, hotel guests etc. run through the whole length of the restaurant all time, a bit distracting and disturbing.
Great place, they offer a la carte as well, nice pizza 🍕 too.
Ate already 3 x there and food and service hasn’t...
Read moreMy Wife and I enjoyed a dinner on a Tuesday night, no problem getting a table with no reservation. We shared an entree, had 2 mains and 2 drinks for a total of ¥10500. The food was good. The service was good, we had a trainee serve us who was working hard, in light of that i was a bit disappointed in the ¥580 service charge. But the biggest disappointment of the night was a man with a screaming child in the dining area. He was obviously staying at the hotel and came down for a drink, but the toddler was screaming the whole time we were eating, finishing in an all out tantrum with the father not doing anything or moving away. When the staff did ask him to politely move he threw a fit and demanded to talk to the manager. If anything the staff should of said something to the male Karen earlier, but good on them for speaking up as it did ruin the atmosphere...
