New World Park Food City doesn’t have many halal options—probably just one or two stalls—so it’s not the best place to visit if you're looking for a variety of halal food. Instead, I’d recommend heading to areas like the intersection of Penang Road and Lebuh Keng Kwee for more choices. One thing that really put me off was the overwhelming pungent pork smell in the area. It was so strong that it made me feel nauseous, which definitely affected my overall experience.
The safest option we found here was Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng, which doesn’t use pork. We decided to get takeaway and ordered two different dishes: Fried Mee Sotong – The signature red sauce looked spicy but was actually more on the sweet side. Aside from the sotong (squid), my plate had potatoes, tofu, lettuce, and another ingredient I couldn’t quite identify. Mee Sotong Rebus – My husband ordered this version, which came with sotong, boiled egg, tofu, and another ingredient. Flavor-wise, his dish had a slightly spicier kick compared to mine, but it still leaned more towards sweet than spicy.
Overall, while the food was decent, the overpowering pork smell in the area was a major turn-off. If you're looking for a more halal-friendly environment, I’d definitely suggest exploring other areas in...
Read moreMuslim consumers beware!!! I won't comment on the food here, but just a cautious observation for the sake of fellow Muslim customers. This shop is located in a food court full of non-halal menus. First thing I noticed is that the cleaner collecting used/dirty plates was not segregating 'halal' and 'non-halal' plates apart from each other. He just mixed all on the same trolley. Second thing I saw was the utensils used were all the same throughout the food court. Meaning those fork and spoon used by the Mee Goreng stall are the same ones used by other 'non-halal' shops. If the plates and utensils from all the stalls are being collected and washed together without segregating between them, then I advise and caution Muslims consumers to avoid this place.
And 1 more thing, this shop is not that honest in displaying their menus and prices. Very confusing price lists. Standard Mee Goreng that everyone orders are RM10 each, not RM8. They will say that the RM8 ones are precooked economy mee goreng which I doubt...
Read moreIf you want to taste the truly Malaysian style of multicultural food, or if you are getting bored of the usual Penang food, you should come here for a try. I will try to review according to my posted photos. First order the Rojak Pasembur with udang besar (fried big prawn) which I have never tried with other rojak before. You can also add sotong as usual.
Second order the indian style of Char Kuey Teow. Although the duck egg CKT in Penang is still my favourite, but this indian CKT is still better than many other KL CKT.
Third must order mee goreng sotong. Squeeze the right amount of lemon into it and mix well, the taste of the mee goreng just ngam ngam hor (means just perfect in hokkien)!
Lastly, you would not want to miss the malay style Hokkien Mee (prawn mee). Taste not bad as it can still beat other KL prawn...
