A Taste of Penang in the Heart of KLCC – A Delightful Midweek Affair
Date: Wednesday, 12 March 2025
There’s something undeniably exciting about a midweek escapade into the heart of Kuala Lumpur, especially when it involves good company and great food. My wife and I hopped onto the Kelana Jaya LRT, cruising effortlessly into KLCC to meet an old classmate from Sibu, Sarawak—our long-overdue reunion set against the charming backdrop of Little Penang Kafé at Suria KLCC.
The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by the café’s warm and nostalgic Baba-Nyonya ambiance—traditional wooden furniture, vibrant Peranakan tiles, and an air of casual elegance. This KLCC outlet is impressively spacious, making it a comfortable spot for both locals and tourists alike to savor Penang’s finest flavors.
Our guest opted for the Fish Ball Noodle Soup, a comforting bowl of silky noodles swimming in a clear, flavorful broth. My wife and I shared the iconic Penang Fried Kway Teow with Seafood—a wok-kissed masterpiece with springy noodles, plump prawns, and just the right hint of smokiness. Adding to the feast, she indulged in a Stuffed Crab, its crisp, golden shell giving way to a rich and savory filling. To complete our meal, we ordered Nyonya Otak-Otak—a delicate, fragrant fish custard wrapped in banana leaves—and Jiu’ Hu Char, a delightful stir-fry of shredded vegetables and cuttlefish, best enjoyed with fresh lettuce wraps.
Each dish was well-executed, delivering the authentic Penang flavors we had hoped for. Service was friendly and efficient, ensuring a seamless dining experience. Prices were reasonable, making it a worthy destination for a taste of Penang without the long journey north.
The only challenge? Parking at KLCC remains as tricky as ever, a small price to pay for a gastronomic escape in one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Fortunately, the LRT made our visit fuss-free.
For anyone craving Penang’s vibrant street food culture in the comfort of an elegant setting, Little Penang Kafé at KLCC is a wonderful choice. Whether for a casual meal or a nostalgic reunion, this...
Read morethis was a place we had in mind and placed it here as its in the same mall. The place was full , we had to wait for about 10 minutes until we got seated. Sad part here (in Kuala Lumpur) was that none of the places gives you water to drink, a glass of water is charged , here it was 1 RM for regular water and 1.5 RM for chilled water. We ordered for a local hot coffee, iced tea and a iced coffee. The iced coffee was the best, super refreshing with mild tones of coffee as the ice melts down.
We ordered Lorbak, a dish with chicken rolled in fermented soya bean sheet and deep fried. Penang curry mee had a creamy coconut based soup with noodles , prawns and fish balls. Char kway teow was another new dish , it had noodles like made with rice cake strips which had a slight chewiness to it. A must try dish here. We also ordered a drink as it sounded different and a red rubies dessert. It was kedondong also known as ambarella fruit, it had a sweet and sour taste to it. The red rubies was something different, we expected it to be sweet as it was mentioned under the dessert section. It had shaved ice but the coconut milk was slightly salty , not sure if it was meant to be that was. It had water chestnuts and jack fruit as well.
Forgot to mention about the Nasi Lemak penang with fried chicken. Nasi lemak is considered to be the national dish of Malaysia. Its rice cooked with coconut milk and comes with a side of peanuts, anchovies , curry , egg and some chilly. An exceptional dish. Overall this is one place you have to visit. Its got some good ambience and even...
Read moregot there at around 1pm saturday .was not queuing up. we got a table for 10. last time i was here i had their char kuey teow and had a freaking horrible food poisoning. this time, since we just got out of petrosains so i braved myself to eat the same food again. so our group ordered ice kacang, asam laksa, curry mee, nasi lemak ayam goreng, char kuey teow, mee bandung johor. the best would be asam laksa and the ayam goreng with nasi lemak. the nasi lemak sambal was not that good though, the taste does not compliment nasi lemak. rm2 nasi lemak taste better actually. curry mee was delicious. char kuey teow was not good lack of all flavors and taste just bland like you are eating a smoked pasta woth no sauce, didnt finish it but the good news is i didnt get food poisoning. mee bandung johor was bland. okay ayam goreng for nasi lemak is amazingly deep fried with crunchy outside and very tender chicken. the asam laksa taste like that famous stall in penang. so overall, asam laksa is the best menu. the staffs are all very not-friendly but their service is fast. the cashier, i think the owner, wants everything fast even made me uncomfortable to check my bills and he has lack of EQ, not friendly and doesn’t know how to handle customers. the only reason this restaurant survives is because of...
