🐣 Lunch at Kafe Melayu Kay Zac – A Spicy Surprise Near Jonker Street
🐣 Tucked just a short walk from Jonker Street, we stumbled upon Kafe Melayu Kay Zac and decided it was the perfect spot for lunch before diving into the busy street market scene.
🐣 This cozy little eatery serves up traditional Malay dishes at very reasonable prices. We went for the asam pedas stingray and a nasi set with egg. Now, I had never tried asam pedas before, so I didn’t know what to expect but wow, I really liked it! The spicy kick definitely woke me up (literally made my eyes open wide 😂). I loved how the sourness was subtle and didn’t linger too long, while the spiciness stayed just enough to keep the flavor alive on my tongue.

I had the chicken rice ball set and it was awful. The chicken was insanely dry, tasteless and covered with a gross sour sauce. The rice balls were dry and tasteless as well.

The atmosphere was a bit cramped because it’s a rather small store, which I can forgive. But it was dimly lit and created an uneasy dining experience.
Overall, if you’re muslim don’t eat here just because it’s halal. You deserve...
Read moreOrdered Nasi Lemak Rendang Adam and it was quite tasty. Good balance of the sambal, a mix of savoury and spicy. Rendang Ayam was flavorful and the meat tender. The rice was a bit mushy today, would have been perfect had they got the rice right, meaning fluffy and fragrant. Very friendly service. Recommended!
