Disappointing Experience – Poor Service & Lack of Transparency

We had a very unpleasant experience at 林记鸡粒饭 in Melaka. Initially, we wanted to order two plates of chicken rice, but the staff refused and insisted that we purchase the RM26 set meal instead. The set was supposed to include:

5 chicken rice balls 1 egg Tofu Chicken Bean sprouts Chicken intestines

However, we never received the chicken intestines. We waited for all the dishes to be served and even waited an extra 10 minutes, expecting the missing item to arrive. No one informed us that it was out of stock. It was only when we were making the payment that we asked about it, and the staff casually mentioned that the chicken intestines were unavailable. They refused to offer a discount or provide a substitute dish, which felt very unfair.

Additionally, we ordered two barley drinks, which cost a total of RM33 (RM26 + RM7 for 2 Barli?), yet they refused to provide a receipt when we asked for one.

The service was also disappointing. We had a baby with us, and one of the workers clearly saw us but ignored our need for a baby chair. Instead of offering any assistance, my husband had to get the chair himself. While we don’t mind self-service, at the very least, the staff should be more attentive and provide better customer service.

Overall, the experience was frustrating, and we would not recommend this place due to their poor service, lack of transparency, and unwillingness to address customer...

I couldn't nap yet and braved the 90 degree sun of this 2-degrees-north-north-of-the-equator climate for Chicken and Riceball.

Yet...another....culinary success story.

Not at all spicy, this dish exudes subtlety, savory, and creaminess. The star of the show are rice balls that are simmered in chicken broth and dance a precarious line between rice with juice and a dough ball.

They get it right here.

But let's not forget the chicken. The breast is cool and dressed with sesame oil and some lighter spice I can't quite name. Perfectly don texture. And it's on a bed of cucumber-like vege that makes this a good match with the hot weather.

The marinated egg was tasty, but the wrong choice for me to add. My bad. Let's just pretend it wasn't there.

And the creamy tea was hot at the start, but cooked as ice finished it.

It's rather amazing what one can create with a essentially a food cart in front and what I'm betting is even more spartan in the kitchen in back. And as guests left I watched the younger host of what is clearly a Chinese family operation clear the dishes, but carefully harvest calorie-rich bits into a special pot. I'm fairly sure it will become part of a stock they eat for their own meal this evening.

And lest anybody wonder if I'm just making these ridiculous prices up--here's the receipt for lunch. 28 Ringit equals $3.12...

visited this restaurant unplanned because other shops that we usually went incl chungwah and eejiban were closed. BUT Lim Jit’s chicken and rice balls surprised us totally! In fact better than the other 白斩鸡 we have tried if not as good as the others. even chicken breast was incredibly smooth. Do note their portion size and their rice ball is quite small too. We went with 5-10rice balls per person. Price was reasonable. And we took away a lot for our neighbours because how delicious it was. My aunty says their hot coffee was good too. They deserve a better google rating. Hope the quality of their chicken and rice balls stay the same and we’ll be back soon!...
