Initially I wanted to try a noodle place but upon seeing the photos, some members started to protest and wanted somewhere more comfortable - read: cafe!
Root is located slightly further away from Jonker Walk so driving was the only option. Sure enough, this stretch of shophouses was quieter without much crowd, even parking was easy.
A bunting featuring some of their bestseller croissants was placed outside to entice passerby. It surely drew the young ones into the typical setting cafe. Tables and chairs placing stretched from the front to the back.
◾Big Breakfast featuring a big plate filled with chicken sausages, hams, scrambled eggs, cherry tomatoes, corns, baked beans, orange slices and croissant. Enough to fill anyone's tummy - two if small eaters. ◾Chicken Burger Shredded Cheese Croissant - stacked tall and held with a skewer. ◾Root's Mushroom Soup with Croissant - simple breakfast for one who wanted something soupy and a croissant to dip into. ◾Chicken Sausage Scrambled Egg Croissant - a simpler kind of breakfast for those who think Big Breakfast was too huge! ◾Pea Flower Latte - the princess could not resist ordering this beautiful drink tinged with blue-ish bunga telang. ◾Coffee was where they need to improve further. After tasting some of the better cafes in Melaka, I thought that the coffee needed more oomph.
We went to drive around this older part of Melaka before preparing to head back to...
Read moreI dropped by Root Patisserie to pass some time. . It’s tucked away, quite a distance from the main Jonker Street crowd. Quiet, calm—only a few people inside when I arrived in the late afternoon. . I ordered the avocado egg croissant, but paused for a moment. I’d had too many eggs lately, and just the thought made my stomach turn. . To my surprise, the staff offered to swap the egg for something else—no fuss at all. Even better, they told me I could add a coffee for just RM1. That kind of sincerity? Rare these days. . Avocado Croissant – The croissant was crisp, generously filled with veggies and avocado. No heavy sauces, no unnecessary dressings. Just fresh, simple goodness. Sometimes, less really is more. . Iced Coffee – Bold and full-bodied, just like the old-school kaw kaw brews you find in nostalgic kopitiams. Loved it. . Service – Top-notch. They adapted the dish to suit my taste and made sure I got the best value for my money. Warm, thoughtful service that didn’t feel forced. Couldn’t ask for more. . Will I come again? Yes—definitely. It’s the kind of place I’d escape to for a quiet recharge. . Would I recommend...
Read moreThe cafe is located the the edge of the tourist spot just 2min walk from the famous Jonker Street, a great place to chill and have a chat with friends. Ordered their promotional DON Set lunch. Simple and delicious. Love it! They have a variety of pastries that looks lovely though this round didn't have the chance to try as was already full. Waitresses were amazing at their job, polite and friendly which makes the experience even better. Even manage to grab a glimpse of the heart warming nature of this cafe, it was the courier guy unloading a few items for them and before he left they even prepared a cold beverage for him. These small gestures are just an amazing side to see. Thanks and will back. Highly recommended.
Update: Back for a 2nd time this time manage to try their signature ondeh ondeh pandan and smoked duck rice. My tummy and taste buds went back extremely happy and satisfied 😌😌. Awesome food...
