Xiang Ji Satay House, nestled near a local Chinese school in Kampung Dua, Melaka, has been our go-to spot for satay cravings for years. The non-halal satay, a delightful mix of pork and chicken, is fast-grilled on charcoal in a purpose-built enclosure at the front of the shop, with a large stand fan ensuring even cooking.
The satay is hand-skewered on the work table next to the grill, each piece marinated to perfection. The peanut and curry spices-based satay sauce is a standout, with a splash of chilli oil adding a kick, and the sweet and tangy taste of pineapple providing a pleasant contrast.
While waiting for the satay, we often find ourselves unable to resist the grilled Muar otak-otak fish paste, a local delicacy that adds to the overall dining experience. The service is swift when not crowded, and despite the prices having increased over the years, it remains good value for satay lovers like us.
Over the years, we've had numerous memorable visits. On February 18, 2023, we enjoyed a lunch visit with our nephew from Shah Alam. More recently, on January 27, 2024, our nephew from KL joined us for an early dinner with his daughter. These family gatherings, filled with delicious food and great bonding, have only enhanced our fondness for this place.
During the lockdown on March 27, 2020, Xiang Ji adapted by offering self-collection or takeaway options. We found it advisable to call in advance to place our orders, which allowed us to enjoy our favourite pork satay and otak-otak for our afternoon tea break, right at home.
In conclusion, Xiang Ji Satay House is more than just a food joint for us. It's a place where delicious food meets warm memories, making every visit a delightful experience. We look forward to many more satay feasts here...
Read moreOh my god! These were the first words that came to mind as I had their satays. The flavours that burst through these well-seasoned meat had me mind blown. Truly!
This restaurant is an old time gem, well loved by locals and tourists alike. Of course, I was skeptical when I first sat down in the restaurant. Just how good can satay be?
Oh, did they prove me wrong. They had four types of satays on their short and sweet menu. Pork, Pork Intestine, Pork Liver and Chicken. I ordered all four.
All of the skewers were well-marinated and juicy. Their meat had tons of flavour, and it had that crispy-char, with that perfect lean meat to fat ratio, that made for a perfect stick.
Grilled over charcoals embers, and delivered right to your table while it’s piping hot- it’s definitely an experience you want to try out.
Pros: For me, I especially loved the pork liver! What an unconventional, hard to find satay. Not many do it, few do it well, and they do it absolutely fantastically! It did not have the signature metallic, disgusting flavour of Liver, but it came through creamy and deliciously charred. Love it!
The sauce was unique. With pineapples blended into it, every dip of the satay captured a bit of the sweet pineapple flesh, that made for an interesting sweet-savoury combo. Love love love!
Service was good. Waiter was proactive in getting us to order. Cashier was also very nice and friendly!
Price was affordable and wallet-friendly.
Definitely a must-go while in Melaka. Do NOT...
Read moreI have had this pork satay for many years now. The family running the shop is very friendly. We normally would call in advance of our trip to Malacca so that she can have our order ready for collection at a pre-arranged date and time.
The satay made of pork, perut (intestines) and liver is exceptionally good. One really does not need the pineapple sauce but with it, the satay gives a completely different taste altogether. They do offer chicken satay as well but not sure how good that is given that it is always porky satay for me. They offer otak otak as well which is good.
Parking can be a challenge. But if one does not mind walking, it is within 4 mins from Jonker. There are also parking a stone's throw away hence not...
