we would like to thank the establishment for its nice food and service. From the moment we walked in the service was very very pleasant and the staff were incredibly friendly! Certainly I must say that this visit was a nice little highlight of the trip I was giving to my Spanish friends. The ambient inside was charming to say the least, with a nice vibe of both cozy and elegance. Now, the true highlight of our visit must be the food and the service: our waitress genuinely went above and beyond with her service in every possible way by offering explanations of the dishes and reccomending us the newly added dish (mussles!). I do think that it may be rare to encounter such nice and enthusiastic hospitality in Amsterdam, especially since this place gets quite busy at times.
As for the food, the ceasar salad was probably the best I’ve had as it had a loooot of protein in it, and a nice twist including anchovies. Crisp lettuce, generius, balanced dressing with croutons and parmesan certainly did add a lot crunch to the dish which was received by surprise to me. And for dessert, I’ve had the Dame Blanche which was a divine intervention for me! The vanilla ice cream and the velvety chocolate sauce reminded me of my childhood days of being carefree, and reminded me of how powerful a well-executed dessert can be despite being simple.
Lastly, the beer was also nice and perfectly poured. The flavors complimented the food and had a very nice mango taste to it (unfortunately I forgor which one I got) but all in all we left Het Groene Paleis not only full but super happy. It’s the kind of place where you can see that the staff morale is very high and where the experience complimebts the taste in a lot of ways. I willcbe taking all my...
Read moreNice little spot next to Dam Square. We had a bit of a long walk so stopped for a little drink. We also ordered some old amsterdam cheese with mustard but the squares were far too big so wasn't easy to eat. The service wasn't fantastic as we had to wait a little while after being seated. I also didn't receive the actual drink I ordered but they did pretend it was the right drink (but it was evident by the receipt we received). They could have just advised me that they didn't have the drink I ordered if this was the case as I did make it clear which drink I wanted from the menu, and when I went to order another drink it took a while to get someone's attention. Although it's not a bad place, I'm not sure I would revisit. Also to be aware the toilets are located downstairs. When I went to the ladies, it's directly next to the men's with both open doors. When I came out of the toilet, a man was standing in the doorway of the ladies restroom. I felt a little unsafe and ran past him at speed to get out of the basement area where the toilets are located, so just be aware if you are a woman in...
Read moreI was at this place, last night, for a reunion of about 130 people. Each paid 45 euros, making a total of over 6000 euros. For this, they provided what to me was an inedible array of of red meat only dishes.
I am a vegetarian, as were many of us, I was left with the following choices: pieces of white bread, chunks of garlic butter, potato salad, coleslaw and some soggy frites. Bread and potatoes is not a good diet.
I, of course, went hungry for my 45 euros. The dessert was also very low quality. The music was dreadful and highly intrusive. The atmosphere was full of dust, causing eyes to water and a lot of sneezing.
Service, at the bar, was almost impossible to get, so busy was it and so disorganised were the staff, that the water I ordered took about 10 minutes to serve. .
This was the worst experience of any of our annual reunions and I highly recommend that anyone, who doesn't want their experience spoiled, to...
