Next to one of the croudiest places in Amsterdam you have the Nes square, a little safe haven of rest. Here you find flemish culture house, de brakke grond. They serve nice food for a reasonable price and have one of the best apple pies that i know off. And a good selection of belgian beers. Wether it is lunch (they have early sun), dinner or drinks its a good place to run off to for some relaxation. The staff is always friendly and helpful however they won't watch your every move and delivery can take a while. So come here for relaxation not for a rush, and if needed grab the attention of the friendly staff for another round :). Service was fast & very friendly.
Food was a bit of a mixed bag. The humus for the bread was strange, very bland and grey (?). Waitress agreed. Fries were great, mussels as well, but the portion was small and on a plate. I'd really still prefer it the old fashioned way in black pot.

Read moreI shouldn't really write this, but if you are a visitor to the city it seems scary to venture out of the busy Rokin street. But go one street over to the Nes to find a bit more local vibe.
De Brakke Grond is one of those local places. Get your real Dutch Bitterballs here together with plenty of other great casual snacks and foods. Good beer selection as well.
