La Boca – Tapas & Steaks Since 1995 — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We never write reviews — let alone negative ones. But this experience was truly shocking.

As a family with two young daughters (ages 4 and 7), we decided to sit down at an empty table on the terrace of this restaurant. It was a sunny day, the table wasn’t reserved, and we quietly took our seats. For ten minutes, we waited patiently while the waiter — a bearded man who was standing right next to our table — ignored us completely. No greeting, no menu, no acknowledgment.

When we eventually asked — politely — if we could order something and if the table could be cleared, he became visibly upset. He started lecturing us about “international rules” of hospitality, because we had seated ourselves at an empty table. The tone was so rude and hostile that we were honestly shocked.

This happened on July 22, 2025, and it ruined what was supposed to be a nice family dinner.

We were stunned. When you’re out with children, you expect at least a basic level of courtesy. Instead, we were met with pure unfriendliness and disrespect. We felt so unwelcome that we left without ordering a thing.

For the record: we are not difficult people. We avoid conflict and always try to be respectful and understanding. But this situation made us feel deeply uncomfortable.

Made a reservation on an app called the fork where we got a 30% discount they said. Our reservation was at 22:30 and when we arrived they first said they were closed after i said i had an reservation they looked pretty irritated and gave us a table immediatly they came to take our order when we didnt get to look at the menus properly. Inbetween when we got our seats and when we left they probally said there were going to close about 5 times... we werent even there for an hour and on the app we could make reservations for 23:30. We thought to order appetiser, main dish and a dessert but ended up only ordering the main dish because we felt forced to hurry up because the staff wasnt that friendly and looked irritated. The main dish was bad my gf's burger was undercooked and my schnitzel was mid at most. The sex on the beach cocktail we also got didnt taste like a sex on the beach cocktail... in the end we also paid full for our dinder and didnt get our 30% discount... overall this experience ruined me and my gf's first restaurant diner date... never coming there again when i go to amsterdam. Passion on a Plate – Tapas & Steaks Done Right at La Boca

La Boca is a fantastic blend of Spanish soul and steakhouse excellence. Since 1995, they’ve clearly mastered the art of good food, good wine, and great vibes. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, energetic atmosphere—cozy yet lively, with just the right amount of flair.

We started with a selection of tapas, and every single one was delicious. The garlic prawns, patatas bravas, and chorizo al vino were packed with flavor and beautifully presented. For the main event, the Argentinian steak was perfectly grilled—tender, juicy, and full of smoky goodness. Easily one of the best steaks we’ve had in a while.

The wine list is solid, with great Spanish and South American options. The staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to guide us through the menu with great recommendations.
