I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jimmy's Smokehouse on Oxford Terrace in Christchurch Central City, and I cannot rave enough about the exceptional experience I had. From the moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere enveloped me, with the beautiful wooden interior offering a homely touch. The distinctive tables, featuring glass tops that revealed charming wood cuts, pebbles, and tiny plants, truly felt like eating on a lush garden and added to the overall enchanting ambience. Our group dined there for dinner, and we were all blown away by the quality and taste of the food. The standout dish for me was the Double Fillet (150g eye fillet and 150g pork eye fillet), which was cooked to absolute perfection. It was clear that every single person at our table was thoroughly satisfied with their meal, with each dish presented beautifully and bursting with flavour. Having had such an incredible dinner experience, I decided to return to Jimmy's Smokehouse the following morning, to try their breakfast offerings. I was delighted to discover that their morning menu was just as exquisite. I ordered Jimmy's Big Brekkie, which consisted of eggs, jalapeno sausages, smoked mushrooms, hand-made bacon, smoked potato, grilled garlic ciabatta, and Jimmy's tomato sauce. I can confidently say it was the best breakfast I've had in Christchurch. The Jimmy's tomato sauce, in particular, was incredibly tasty and elevated the entire dish. In conclusion, Jimmy's Smokehouse on Oxford Terrace is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable and delectable dining experience in Christchurch. From the stunning atmosphere and unique table design to the mouth-watering dishes, this establishment truly offers an experience worth savouring. Whether you are a local or a visitor, be sure to add Jimmy's Smokehouse to your list of go-to dining destinations in the city.

Very confused with the 4.5 stars review, maybe the company changed hands? Staff there were super friendly but I ordered half racked bbq ribs in Smokey BBQ sauce and they served me naked ribs that looked steamed. I asked if they forgot the sauce, then they said the sauce is in the pot(under the garlic bread) but the sauce in the pot is tomato sauce…. Then I questioned that it’s tomato sauce and they send me a pot of bbq sauce. Then I looked at the menu again it said RIBS IN SMOKEY BBQ SAUCE. After that I looked at this place’s old Google reviews and the pic of the ribs in the past looked saucey. Then I decided to ask for a refund (which was super embarrassing) and at the same time I overheard the waitress asking the chef “why did you put sauce in a pot on the side?” in a genuine manner (it was like she was genuinely curious). I just left the restaurant after I got my money back. It was disappointing because I was starving and I’m in Christchurch for a work trip. I was super worried that they wouldn’t refund the money then I’d be starved all night (work reimbursed for one dinner a day) cuz the ribs were inedible.

Originally a 3.5 star however ^.5 because they are very welcoming to feedback on improvement. Meat is well cooked and seasoned. Unfortunately there is no brisket at the moment. The grilled veg is literally one small carrot and a Brussel sprout. The corn was dry and unflavoured. The slaw was plain and unseasoned. The Mac and cheese needed either more or a different or an additional cheese. The garlic bread was yummy with the taste of meat however could have had more garlic. For food overall well cooked meat but under seasoned everything else. As a restaurant fun decor, clean, could see it as a night club. 80’s music then transition to house music didn’t really suit the smoke house theme and slightly too loud. Comfy seats and crafty tables suited the theme well. Wait staff very friendly but not knowledgeable of the menu. Very happy to help. The restaurant is very accommodating of feedback as they haven’t been open long. Hope to see good things in a couple of months. They need a star banger to set them above the other smoke houses.

An average at best meal.

The food was slow and when it came out, it was cold. We ordered the surf and turf for two and, while the portion was generous, there was very little love or care put into the food. One of the ribs (you only get two) was burned to a char and hidden below other items (burned side down). When we mentioned it to the staff, they tried to pass it off as 'caramelisation' or bark. The prawns were barely cooked and cold. On a positive note, the steaks (sirloin and fillet) were seasoned nicely and well cooked and the bread was delicious. We weren't charged for a starter we ordered due to the state of the ribs which was appreciated. I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back. *Update based on the reply to my initial feedback - happy to update the review to more fairly reflect the fact that the majority of the food we ordered was eaten - this isnt a sign of good food but more so a sign that we didn't want to spend $250+ dollars and leave hungry. I've removed a star from service based on your unprofessional, passive aggressive response which implies we have no idea what 'proper' BBQ should look like - it was burned and inedible and you can't gaslight me into thinking otherwise. Based on the majority of the Google reviews, it looks as if these guys get it right more often than they get it wrong... maybe our experience was...
