Puff Cafe — Restaurant in Hibiscus and Bays

Tucked away in a side street and then a quiet lane is this amazing find. Sitting in the sunlight on a blustery day, sheltered from the cool wind, I am quickly brought my coffee and delicate choux pastry made here by the "Diplome de Patisserie Le Cordon Bleu " chef. At this time of the day, I often take my food back -to -front , preferring the sweet first, followed by the savoury. So my palate was ready for the Carrot Bowl that arrived as my main dish for lunch. While I wait, I can hear the chatty and happy conversation from the kitchen and every so often I look up and smile as I watch the staff prepare these beautiful dishes in a tiny space Laughter sprinkles their work and you get a sense that this warmth sprinkles the food too. BEST CHEESE SCONE IN THE AUCKLAND. IM NOT JOKING. If you can get it, get your hands on them because they sell out fast. It's insane how good it is no matter warmed, cold, butter, no butter. It's just crazy. No floury taste neither baking soda, perfect amount of cheesiness without greasy aftertaste. Touch of sweetness to balance all things and this is so consistent everytime we get them (on lucky occasion that it's not sold out by the time I get there). Their coffee is imo pretty up there in orewa region(drifter serves a good coffee but this can compete), and in my personal taste, better than yawara. We drove from Paihia to this Cafe on our way home. After checking out “reviews” we gave this cafe a shot. The coffee was great. Bold and strong. Just like we hoped for. Ambience could be better but not too comfortable. Food was pricey and nothing spectacular. For the serving size it’s not worth the price. If you’re looking for a place just for a cup of coffee this will do but if you’re wanting a feed check out somewhere else. The food cabinet was almost empty when we got there at 12 noon so nothing to choose from but the menu. For almost $60 we could have had better options...
