Went here twice.
Got the mutton masala meal the first time. As many other reviews have already highlighted but these guys don't seem to care about, the meat was very tough and the gravy tasted like a basic tomato onion base with a heap ton of coarsely ground garam masala thrown in at the end. But ok whatever, it could pass off as something a person would make in India on their first or second attempt at the dish. No where near good, but Indian enough to satisfy the craving. I would not have returned after this but my friend, who'd never been there before, insisted that I join him there for a meal. He ordered the baingan bharta, despite my many warnings. I got the pahadi chicken tikka. Now what's amusing is that these guys have managed to get the look of the food pretty bang on . So when it arrived I was genuinely impressed with how authentic it looked. One bite is all it took to understand that it was pretty much plain chicken covered in green colouring with no hint of any other flavour that would make up a tikka marinade. Anyway, even that was excusable. But then my friends baingan ka bharta showed up. We still don't know what in the world that was but it looked like the bhaaji of pav bhaaji and tasted , again , like nothing but garam masala.
I mean, why call your weird eggplant monstrosity a baingan bharta? It is such an easy and quick thing to make with the authentic recipe. How did garam masala end up in baingan bharta?! Why does it look like a curry? The most god awful thing we've ever eaten. This was possibly the second worst Indian food I've had in LATAM.
The only saving grace is that the mint lemonade is really lovely and refreshing.
I'd recommend that the chef look up literally any picture or recipe of baingan bharta to understand that what they offer up is nowhere in the vicinity of...
Read moreAmazing Indian food! Authentic tasting! I am from India and when I lived in Peru for 3 months last September, I CRAVED Indian food and Taste of India was a lifesaver. At first, I chose it from other Indian restaurant simply because it was so close to the Plaza but I absolutely loved the food. I pretty much stuck to the similar menu of the Thali set with rice, naan, butter chicken. Also loved their masala chai and gulab jamun. Their lamb vindaloo is to die for! My only one criticism is with regards to their opening times. The 2 times that I went to this restaurant, I was there at 12 noon, which google said was their opening hour but both the times, they only opened at 12:30 pm. I had to wait half and hour. In the time that I waited, I saw 5-6 customers come and leave because they were still closed, which is a shame since they would have really liked the food. But the restaurant did say that they open at noon, so I understand why patrons do not want to wait. Except for this little issue, I give this place a 5 star! Food is great! Location is convenient!...
Read moreAfter a long journey to the beautiful city of Cusco, my family and I were famished and stumbled upon “Taste of India.” Little did we know, we were about to embark on a culinary adventure that would leave us questioning our life choices.
Upon entering, we were the only customers in sight. This should have been our first red flag. We waited a whopping 40 minutes for our food – and mind you, we didn’t order anything fancy. Just some fried fritters, rice, and chicken. How long does it take to fry something and cook rice? Apparently, an eternity.
When the food finally arrived, it was like a scene from a horror movie. The “Taste of India” was indeed authentic – if by authentic you mean prepared without any hygienic precautions. The result? A delightful bout of food poisoning that had my son vomitting all night and me glued to the toilet for days.
This place isn’t a restaurant; it’s a casino where you gamble with your health. Will you make it through your meal unscathed, or will your trip to Peru be ruined? Roll the dice and find out! Spoiler...
