I reserved a room at 300 soles (80 US dollars) per night for two nights via Airbnb. If you look at the way Santa Maria advertises on Airbnb… You would think that this is a little jewel. I was willing to spend 80 dollars a night as I know we are in Cusco. You drive one hour away from Cusco and for that price, you get a mansion. Any way, I had to communicate as I had made an error in my reservation (did it for one night and not two.) the change was made but after I complained many times to Airbnb that I was not hearing back from the hotel. I should have followed my instinct and cancelled altogether but… when I got there, the employee takes me to a ridiculously small room, with a tiny window giving on the hallway… I am rare to complain but in this situation… I told her: you give me another room or I cancel right away. I have been traveling and not only that, am sick. I am exhausted. Last thing I wanted to do was to carry my luggage around town… the employee was nice and understood my disappointment. She agreed that for the price I paid… she blamed it on Airbnb… when she should blame it on the hotel owner for misleading potential clients on Airbnb. She showed me another room. Not great but a little better. I gave in. I just spent my first night and did not sleep a wink. All night long the ringer as they allow guests to come in at any time of the night but ask they ring the guardian. There is no key that lets you in or out the hotel. It was Saturday night. Ann night long, you could also hear music from a close by night club. This morning, I checked another room across from mine that I am certain is one I could have afforded. It is a much nicer room. I am done complaining and don’t feel like moving rooms again. But what I do not appreciate is that I feel the employee was instructed to give me one of their worst rooms as I am single… I feel the owner looks at it this way. It gives them more chances to sell the other larger and more comfortable rooms to couples. Their towels feel like cardboard! Room is clean but nothing more. The bathroom is rather depressing with ugly neon lights. There is a safe that doesn’t...
Read moreBeware of this property!! I booked Hotel Santa Maria for a small group months before the reservation out of several other comparable properties because of the reviews I saw online--especially of the location. ||||Horrible customer service from day 1. I contacted the hotel at least 5 times months before the reservation to attempt to make additional arrangements with no response at all. The only way I was even remotely able to get ahold of the property was via Facebook messenger where I was given a general response in Spanish but no assistance. ||||I made the booking through hotels.com and even had a representative call the property 2 weeks before our scheduled stay to confirm the booking since they were so unresponsive and unprofessional. The hotels.com representative successfully contacted the property and confirmed all 6 of our rooms.||||Upon arriving at the property they DENIED having our reservation and availability of accommodation for our group which left us scrambling for another property that could accommodate us the day before everyone arrived. ||||It's been a while since I've experienced such a lack of unprofessionalism and disregard-- especially when the property has so many positive reviews. This property has been blacklisted for our company and we would never consider returning in the future. I can only recommend that all guests try to confirm the reservation multiple times so you're not denied the room that you paid for...
Read moreI ended up at Hotel Santa Maria after a horrible experience at a nearby hostal in which my phone, ATM, and license were stolen. The front desk staff were SO HELPFUL!!!! There are two young women at the front desk who took the time to help me negotiate the horrors of finding banks to give me cash advances and locating a place to buy a decent used camera before a jungle and Machu Picchu Trek. They also helped me negotiate a foreign keyboard as I logged into my bank and other accounts to report my lost card. The lobby is open at all hours and Coca Tea and other beverages are available. There is a bright and sunny courtyard. Nuns from the next door monastery visit regularly. The sheets are clean, the showers have hot water, and they provide a steady supply of clean towels, shampoos, and soaps. I basically made this my home in between treks and am eternally grateful to the staff for their help! The other good news for vegetarian travelers is that this hotel is literally right across the street from Greens Restaurant and one block from the fabulous El Encuentro...both vegan/veg friendly..... It's so cheap given the location and the convenience....On the last date of my visit they event let my friends who had check out of their respective hotels store their luggage until we went to the airport..... I rate...
