Avoid this business (Casa Brasileira) as a tourist. Go to Fábrica da Nata next door. Here's why:
I bought six egg custards and two coffees. I asked for them in to-go containers since I would not be consuming all of them at the same time. The cashier ran my card and immediately and intentionally selected the USD option (I saw her do this), which will applying a markup fee of 4% on top of their exchange rate, which is also higher than market rate. I immediately asked why EUR was not selected to which she lied to me and said she did select EUR.
I took the receipt to the manager where it clearly shows the 4% markup and USD conversion and he doubled down and also lied, saying I was only charged the EUR amount. I left at this point due to time constraints and not truly understanding if I was upcharged or not. Well, I definitely was. The merchant is NOT permitted to do this without asking you. This is a shady business and should be avoided.
Additionally, after the purchase I walked outside to a table (they have many and almost all were empty). Before I could even sit down a server told me I was not allowed to use their tables because I was a to-go customer. I just paid over $10 USD for their products and I can't even use one of their 10+ vacant tables for 5 minutes.
As for the food itself: mediocre, lukewarm egg custards. Not terrible, but nothing special.
Do yourself a favor and go to Fábrica da Nata. Excellent friendly service, better atmosphere, warmer and tastier egg custards. Avoid the stress of having to deal with predatory practices such as these while trying to enjoy your hard...
Read moreThe food brought me to tears, honestly, I felt like crying🥹
Not good tears, but tears from holding back my disgust. I’d rather drive 3 hours back to Portimão to eat food. (Highly recommend “Casa de rocha” and “o’maña”) In all my time staying in Portugal, this is by far the worst restaurant I’ve eaten at. The meat was thick and cooked terribly, the fish was overcooked, the potato’s overcooked, broccoli overcooked. Salad was outdated and oily. Everything was oily except for the fist, it was drier than the Sahara desert. I ordered lemonade, it tasted of 95% lemon, almost made me puke. I made better at home when I was 5. Food came decently, but our waiter was not ideal. Took us many minutes and reminders before we got the bill. Overpriced for its quality. Not even to mention the people who work there, this man was screaming for costumers, made the dining experience even worse. Just a few moments of walking down the street, I felt like puking because of the food. The meat tasted like eating chewy charcoal, outside tasted burnt while the inside was completely raw. Save yourself and don’t eat here, not...
Read moreI have to start this review with I knew better. I typically avoid places like this because of exactly what they are. They are there to serve the unknowing tourist. My coworkers decided to go and I couldn't talk them out of it. The food came (most of it without reminding the staff), but was next to inedible. The steak was cooked well done and it was less than a half inch thick. One pizza we ordered was forgotten and then to make it come out quickly, they just undercooked it, along the dough look like the mediocre cheese on it.
I understand why these places are what they are, but they don't have to be. These restaurants are in ideal places to showcase the local cuisine even at a decent price point (this was not, it was about 15-25% more than one would expect to pay in Lisbon and that's without the failings of the food).
The staff was okay. They forgot two of our six dishes and were set up for failure based on the food (my friend tried to send back the pizza, but unfortunately he had eaten too much...
